For the past two years, we’ve heard that Warner Bros has been developing a sequel to the Zack Snyder film 300. At last year’s Comic-Con the director confirmed that he was working on the follow up but according to Vulture, that might not be the case. The site claims that Sherlock Holmes helmer Guy Ritchie is up for the position.
Warner Bros has offered Ritchie the director’s chair for the sequel which is based on an upcoming comic book from 300 creator Frank Miller. Xerxes is said to tell of the history of the “King of Kings” and his rise to power in fifth-century-BC Persia. Supposedly beginning about ten years before 300. Why is Warner Bros taking Xerxes away from Snyder? Some suspect it’s because they need him to buckle down and focus on his Superman reboot, Man of Steel. Another theory is that the studio no longer trusts the director with the franchise. Apparently recent test screenings of his latest film Sucker Punch haven’t been doing that well.
We don’t know how much we buy of the last theory. We understand that he’s already signed on for Superman, but if they really had doubts about his talent they would yank that away in a heartbeat. Supes is the studio’s golden goose! What do you think of Ritchie possibly directing Xerxes? Related Posts |
| Ice Cube Joining 21 Jump Street Posted: 15 Feb 2011 05:00 PM PST
You read our title right, Ice Cube is joining the cast of 21 Jump Street. The roster currently includes Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and according to Deadline the rapper-turned-actor-turned-director is currently in negotiations to play a pivotal role that will have him in the middle of all the action.
Cube will play the precinct captain, a role that was originated by Steven Williams on the TV series of the same name. Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the film for Sony Pictures. Production is slated to begin in late April. There’s been no word on whether or not Johnny Depp (who appeared on the TV show) will make a cameo, but the Hill and Tatum are desperately trying to rope him in.
We like the fact that Cube is trying to diversify his acting resume. But we have to admit, Williams was a cool captain. He was 21 Jump Street’s version of Billy Dee Williams (the Colt 45 era). We’re not sure if Cube can pull that off. What do you think of Ice Cube joining 21 Jump Street? Related Posts |
| Sherlock Holmes 2 Gets A New Title Posted: 15 Feb 2011 03:26 PM PST
This seems to be the week of new titles for movie franchises. Yesterday we learned that Sony’s Spider-Man reboot had been renamed The Amazing Spider-Man, and now Warner Bros wants to get in on the action. The studio has infused their upcoming Sherlock Holmes 2 with some added “oomph” in the title.
According to Coming Soon, the new title of the film is…wait for it, wait for it: Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows. Yeah, it’s pretty lackluster. Are we the only ones who think of Blair Witch 2: Book of Shadows when we hear the name? It seems like they could have done better. Darn these metaphors for story plot points! “The sequel will continue the adventures of the world’s most famous detective, Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jr.) and his friend and associate Dr. Watson (Jude Law) as they match wits against their arch-nemesis, Professor Moriarty (Jared Harris). The film also stars Stephen Fry in the role of Mycroft, Sherlock’s brother and will feature Noomi Rapace ad the currently-unnamed female lead.” Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows opens on December 16, 2011. What do you think of the new title for the sequel? Related Posts |
| Ray Liotta, Casey Affleck, Mark Ruffalo Confirmed for Cogan’s Trade Posted: 15 Feb 2011 03:03 PM PST
Ray Liotta is doing legitimate film work again. The Goodfellas star has been cast in Andrew Dominik’s upcoming feature Cogan’s Trade. The drama is headlined by Brad Pitt and several other actors who are more than a little familiar with the director. We’re talking about Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell (who’ve both been confirmed).
THR reports that Liotta will join Pitt, Affleck, Rockwell, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, and Vincent Curatola. There’s been no word on who will play what role, but we’re pretty sure all their characters will be shady. Cogan's Trade is based on a novel by George V. Higgins, which was published in 1974. Here's the official synopsis for the book below:
What do you think of Liotta joining the cast?

| F. Gary Gray, Jon M. Chu Contenders to Direct G.I. Joe 2 Posted: 15 Feb 2011 01:20 PM PST
Last week the folks over at Latino Review, reported that F. Gary Gray and Jon M. Chu were on the shortlist to direct Paramount’s G.I. Joe sequel. Today, THR has followed up and confirmed their speculation. According to the trade the duo are definitely in the running to replace Stephen Sommers, who directed the previous film.
The studio has made the next G.I. Joe a high priority on their list of things to do. Producer “Lorenzo di Bonaventura has met with a number of directors in recent days, including Gray and Chu, while Paramount execs will commence their talks this week.” He wants production to begin by June so the film can be in theaters by 2012. If you want our pick for the movie we say F. Gary Gray all day. Nothing against Chu but the first Joe was filled with corny and cheesy effects and dialogue, therefore we need someone who’s a little more grounded for the next one. Something about directing Step Up and Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never doesn’t give us the confidence we need in his abilities. Who do you think should direct G.I. Joe 2? Related Posts |
| Video: Justin Timberlake on The Cleveland Show Posted: 15 Feb 2011 12:49 PM PST
Justin Timberlake is returning to his singing roots — sort of. The singer-turned-actor will appear on an upcoming episode of “The Cleveland Show” that will have him busting out a sweet falsetto as he busts out of someone’s nose. Yes, J.T. will be voicing a green, gross booger on the show. You didn’t expect that did you? Check out a preview of him in action below…
Click on the photo to be taken to the video: Over at EW, they’ve got the first look at Timberlake’s role as a singing booger, whom Rallo performs a sweet duet with on a bridge. At first we didn’t recognize his voice (he’s been away so long) but as the song progressed we remembered that old J.T. from long ago. The song actually isn’t that bad, if you block out the gross lyrics. It’s definitely not something you want to listen to or watch while eating.
This episode of “The Cleveland Show” will air on Sunday February 20th. What do you think of Timberlake’s singing return? Related Posts |

| Clips: The Adjustment Bureau – Lots of Love and Mind Reading Posted: 15 Feb 2011 12:06 PM PST
Some new clips from George Nolfi’s upcoming thriller, The Adjustment Bureau have just been released and have confirmed that Matt Damon’s character is in fact in love. Just to prove it, EVERY scene seems to be about his character being in love, with a bit of mind-reading and world-swapping in the midst of his love story. My fear, too much pining and not enough psychedelic mind-blowing.
The film has an all-star cast led by one of my favorite non-movie stars who happens to be a movie star, Matt Damon whose character is be chasing after the lovely Emily Blunt — who is hot enough that she can throw your phone in a cup of coffee and apparently you just don’t care! I wish I knew what that was like. And then there is the impressive supporting cast Anthony Mackie, John Slaterry (who just can’t seem to get out of his 60’s suit and is always “a professional that fucks with you”), Daniel Dae Kim, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Michael Kelly and Terence Stamp. All of whom are featured in the new clips below… True Love:
See, when you’re that pretty you can get away with JUST about anything… The question is, why the third perspective from behind? Who’s watching them? The Plan (more of this please!):
I love Slaterry — he’s always so damn cool. And the man knows how to rock a suit and hat. In Your MIND — just remember he’s in love:
Sill for Love:
And still…:
Can get away with anything AND they’re in love… No Matter What:
And of course… RUN!!!!:
The Adjustment Bureau debuts in theaters nationwide on its new release date March 4th, 2011. Are you enticed? Is it the romance or the idea that gets you? Related Posts |
| Cars 2 Photos: John Turturro and Eddie Izzard’s Characters Posted: 15 Feb 2011 11:51 AM PST
Over the past few months Disney-Pixar have unveiled multiple character photos from their upcoming sequel Cars 2. The film will hit theaters this summer and will once again feature the voices of Owen Wilson and Larry the Cable Guy. Two other actors who’ll lend their vocal talents to the film are John Turturro and Eddie Izzard, and we’ve got their animated alter egos below…
Can you guess which vehicle is voiced by Turturro? If you picked the overtly Italian one at the top, you’re correct! His name is Francesco Bernoulli, and Pixar chief John Lasseter describes him as being “completely, wonderfully full of himself.” That should be an interesting portrayal. Next, we have the army green SUV voiced by Izzard, whose name is Miles Axlerod. He’s “a former oil baron who now spends his life both researching alternative fuels and hosting the Grand Prix race.” Synopsis:
Cars 2 opens in theaters nationwide on June 24, 2011 (in Disney Digital 3D and IMAX 3D). What do you think of Turturro and Izzard’s characters in Cars 2? Source: Cinemablend Related Posts |
| Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter Join Dark Shadows Posted: 15 Feb 2011 10:07 AM PST
Who’s really surprised by this latest casting for Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows? The director has roped in two frequent collaborators for the project in the form of Michelle Pfeiffer and Helena Bonham Carter. According to a report from Heat Vision, both actresses are in talks to fill two primary female roles. Find out what they are…
“Pfeiffer would play Elizabeth Collins Stoddard, the reclusive matriarch of the Collins family which runs the Maine town. The character has not left the mansion since the disappearance of her husband a decade earlier.” The last time the actress starred in a Burton film it was in 1992’s Batman Returns where she played Selina Kyle aka Catwoman. Carter, who previously appeared in Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, “is likely to play Hoffman, a specialist in psychology and rare blood disorders who moves into Collinwood. While she initially is a threat to the vampire Barnabas, she eventually becomes his ally, who might be able to cure him of his thirst for blood” according to Deadline. Dark Shadows is expected to begin filming sometime this year. The film is based on the Gothic themed soap opera that ran on ABC from 1966 to 1971. It reappeared briefly in the early nineties on NBC as a weekly prime time series, but the new format didn't stick and neither did the viewers. What do you think of the latest additions to the Dark Shadows cast? Related Posts |
| Johnny Depp in Rango Movie Clip Posted: 15 Feb 2011 09:23 AM PST
A new clip has been released from Johnny Depp’s latest film Rango. The animated feature is directed by his former Pirates of the Caribbean helmer Gore Verbinski and marks the director’s first venture into the genre. In this clip, Rango has a hard time asserting his leadership amongst a group of Southwest natives. Hilarity ensues. Take a look…
As you can see, he starts off a little rocky but eventually finds his footing. We love the music in this clip and the fact that they point it out so blatantly. Sometimes tunes can be considered secondary characters in movies. Rango centers on a chameleon who's going through an identity crisis and embarks on a cross-country journey where he ends up in the dangerous Southwest territory. Instead of the animals being portrayed as creatures in the wild they're given human characteristics, a cowboy/mariachi wardrobe, and a Western genre vibe. The voice cast for the film includes, Isla Fisher, Abigail Breslin, Alfred Molina, Bill Nighy, Harry Dean Stanton, Ray Winstone, and Timothy Olyphant. Rango is scheduled to hit theaters on March 4, 2011. Source: Yahoo Movies Related Posts |
