| Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan Cast in Mortal Kombat Web Series Posted: 14 Feb 2011 04:04 PM PST
The Mortal Kombat web series is coming along nicely. A couple weeks ago we learned that Warner Bros plans on turning the Mortal Kombat: Rebirth short into a series after its monumental online success and today the first casting briefs have been announced. It turns out that two of the primary actors will reprise their roles for the web series — Michael Jai White and Jeri Ryan.
In Rebirth Ryan played Lt. Sonya Blade and White starred as Major Jackson "Jax" Briggs. In the videogame storyline, they were both a part of the same military unit, and became participants in the Kombat competition. Kevin Tancharoen will also return to direct the series, which he’ll write alongside Aaron Helbing and Todd Helbing. Available this spring through online digital retailers from Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, the "Mortal Kombat" digital series is an anthology of multiple live action shorts, each providing never-before-revealed insights into characters featured in the upcoming videogame as well as the game's universe. Additional details, including casting, will be announced in the coming weeks. What do you think of White and Ryan reprising their roles for the web series? Source: Collider Related Posts |
| Saffron Burrows to Headline Bones TV Spin-Off Posted: 14 Feb 2011 02:53 PM PST
A few weeks ago we reported that Geoff Stults had landed the lead in the upcoming spin-off of the hit Fox series “Bones.” The actor was cast as the male counterpart to a previously unknown female co-star. But don’t worry, the lady’s identity has finally been revealed! Stults will get a little help from former “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” star Saffron Burrows.
According to TVLine, “The planted pilot, which will air as the 19th episode of Bones' current season, is based on The Locator books written by Richard Greener and centers on Walter Sherman aka "the Locator" (Stults), a former military policeman who can find anything.” It was previously announced that Walter's partner will be played by Oscar nominee Michael Clarke Duncan. Duncan's character's name is Leo, a tough, raw-hide cowboy philosopher. The new show is based on The Locator, a two book series written by Richard Greener. The story centers on Walter Sherman aka "the Locator," a former military policeman who can find anything. The pilot for the show, will be aired as the 19th episode of "Bones" this season. | Robin McLeavy Cast in Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter Posted: 14 Feb 2011 01:43 PM PST
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is on a roll. Last week several major casting announcements were made regarding the supporting roster, which included the addition of Anthony Mackie and Dominic Cooper. Now according to Latino Review, another power player has joined the party — Robin McLeavy.
McLeavy is said to play the role of Mary Todd, Lincoln’s main squeeze in the film. The Hollywood Reporter previously announced that McLeavy and Mary Elizabeth Winstead were in talks for the role, and we guess McLeavy won out. In the script Todd is described as “a petite 20 year old brunette.” It seems as if director Timur Bekmambetov is looking to cast novices and up and comers as the primary leads in the film. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is a fictionalized creation of the former U.S President which mixes historical events with fantasy. The book was written by Seth Grahame-Smith, who is known for his ability to blend classic figures and properties with old school horror elements. In the book and the film Lincoln is re-imagined as an axe-throwing, highly trained vampire assassin. Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is scheduled to hit theaters on June 22, 2012. | Skateland On It’s Way to Theaters – New Poster and Trailer Posted: 14 Feb 2011 12:59 PM PST
The little indie that could! Skateland is one of those films that we keep hearing about and it is finally on its way to you thanks to Freestyle Releasing who will taking the film and (as their name suggestions) releasing it for audiences. The film stars Shiloh Fernandez, Ashley Greene (of Twilight fame), Heath Freeman, Brett Cullen and Taylor Handley, and is directed by first time director Anthony Burns. Often times a trailer is what sells the film and if that’s the case I’m sold. Though it’s a story we’ve seen before, the style, the look, and the tone of the trailer makes me want to see film film. Check out more about the film, a poster for it and the trailer below…

See what I’m getting it? It’s a cliched story in a way, but also a timeless one that when done right is unforgettable. Official Synopsis:

| Gerard Butler Confirmed for How to Train Your Dragon 2 Posted: 14 Feb 2011 12:11 PM PST
It’s no secret that a sequel to last year’s How To Train Your Dragon is on the way. The movie was a critical and commercial success that brought some positive attention to DreamWorks Animation who were in dire need of a good film. The Shrek franchise has more than worn out its welcome. Last fall they revealed that How to Train Your Dragon 2 would hit theaters in 2013, and that the majority of the cast would return. Everyone’s name was on the list except for the one and only Gerard Butler. We thought he was a strange omission, so we’re happy to report that he’s finally been confirmed for the sequel.
The casting news comes from Empire, who say that Butler was the last actor to sign on for the sequel. With his addition, the entire original cast will be on board. He’ll join the aforementioned Jay Baruchel, Craig Ferguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, TJ Miller and Kristen Wiig. The sequel is being made under the creative guidance of Dean DeBlois, Chris Sanders, and Bonnie Arnold. It is written and directed by DeBlois and produced by Arnold. Once again based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, the sequel is executive produced by Sanders and DeBlois. What do you think of Butler returning for How to Train Your Dragon? Related Posts |
| Katie Holmes Next Film, Don’t Be Afraid of The Dark Gets New Release Date Posted: 14 Feb 2011 11:21 AM PST
Do you remember hearing about Guillermo del Toro’s newest horror film Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark? It was one of the most terrifying panels at last year’s Comic-Con, and we mean that in a good way. The film that stars Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce, somehow missed its initial release date, which was set for January 21, 2011. The movie dropped into the abyss of forgotten films, but according to THR it’s got a second shot at life.
The trade reports that Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark has been picked up by FilmDistrict, and they plan on releasing the project on August 12. That’s a long ways away from January but at least it’s something. The collapse of Miramax via Disney is what essentially kicked the film to the curb in the first place. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark is based on a 1973 made for TV movie about a girl who moves in with her dad and his girlfriend, only to discover that they're sharing their home with some "devilish creatures." What do you think of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’s delayed release? Are you still excited for the film? Related Posts |
| Documentary on Chogyam Trungpa Screened at SBIFF Posted: 14 Feb 2011 11:06 AM PST Everyone loves a bad boy, especially when the man in question is famously known as ‘the bad boy of Buddhism.’ As naughty as Buddha may look with his charming smile and big exposed belly, I am referring to another man – Chogyam Trungpa. This past weekend at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the bad boy came to the screen. Johanna Demetrakas directed the documentary Crazy Wisdom: A film about the life and time of Chogyam Trungpa, Rinpoche. This feature takes us to the UK, Tibet, Canada, and the US twenty years after the death of man who gave up his monk robes, eloped with a 16-year-old and drank alcohol openly. Trungpa is renown as one of the greatest spiritual leaders of the 20th century by famous intellectuals like Allen Ginsberg. The documentary features archived footage of Trungpa, as well as interviews with students, academics, and family. Demetrakas goal was to show Trungpa’s journey from Tibet into the western world. Crazy Wisdom had it’s world premiere at the SBIFF on February 5, 2011, and as part of the ‘Best of Fest’ (at SBIFF) the documentary screened on Sunday, Feb. 13, 2011 at 11am at the Riviera Theater. And folks, it’s free! For more information visit the SBIFF website. Check out the trailer of Crazy Wisdom below… Are you interested in watching Crazy Wisdom? Photo by Bob Morehouse Related Posts |
| Test Footage From CGI ThunderCats Movie Posted: 14 Feb 2011 10:33 AM PST
The ThunderCats are headed back to the small screen to capture fans from a new generation. A few weeks ago, we got our first glimpse of the new animation’s design and to say that it was different would be an understatement. Warner Bros has been trying to revive the franchise for years. They even created some test footage for a possible CGI film version of the show. Through the magic of the internet we found it, and the characters look more thunder than cats. Check it out…
Where do we start? Why does Lion-O look and talk like a dumb jock? Apparently, the plot centers on a young Lion-O, who’s coming into his own as a warrior. That explains his lack of experience and confidence but Lion-O isn’t Lion-O without his assurance and long mane. We need luxurious hair! Are we being too harsh on this? The animation is OK but it’s nothing to write home about. We’re not sure the exact date that it was created so we can’t judge it too much. It probably fits in with whatever time it was developed. What do you think of the CGI version of ThunderCats? Would you have watched the film? Source: Flixist Related Posts |
| First Look: Jude Law On Set of Contagion Posted: 14 Feb 2011 09:44 AM PST
Filming has recently begun on director Steven Soderbergh’s ensemble piece Contagion. The film, as suggested by the title, has to do with a viral outbreak. There’s a lot at stake and a lot of A-List stars lending their time and talent to tell the story. Jude Law is one of the actors featured in the film, and we’ve discovered several photos of him on set in San Francisco shooting some scenes. Check them out…
Contagion's story will center on the "outbreak of a deadly virus," and have the majority of the cast members playing doctors and scientists. The latest plot details reveal that an international team of medical professionals will be brought in by the "CDC (Centers for Disease Control) once the sickness outbreak starts." The story will also take place on four continents, which will have the characters jet setting across the globe to help contain the disease. The film will star Matt Damon, Kate Winslet, Marion Cotillard, Laurence Fishburne, and Gwyneth Paltrow. Poor Mr. Law. He has to wear the most uncomfortable suit during this scene. At least he’s protecting himself from whatever the hell it is they’re trying to escape in the film. Contagion is scheduled to hit theaters on October 21, 2011. | Darren Lynn Bousman’s 11-11-11 Teaser Trailer Posted: 14 Feb 2011 09:14 AM PST
Director Darren Lynn Bousman has unleashed the teaser trailer for his upcoming film 11-11-11. We wonder when the movie will be released in theaters (sarcasm)? The trailer initially debuted on Bousman’s official blog this weekend, and we have it for you to watch right here. Check it out below…
“The plot is said to be inspired by the real-life organization that believes the recurrence of the numbers 11:11 are of spiritual significance and a link to spirit guardians. The script specifically deals with 11 gates of Heaven and how, on November 11th, 2011, the final gate will open for 49 minutes.” To be honest, the concept of horror movies that center around cursed numbers has been done before. Does anyone remember the Number 23? No? There’s a reason for that. We’ve never been fans of the Saw series, which Bousman had a steady hand in, and this movie doesn’t exactly float our boat. To each his own! The film is still in production and what we’re seeing here is a very rough cut of what to expect. So we may be judging it too harshly. What do you think? What do you think of the trailer for 11-11-11? Are you interested in seeing the film? Additional Source: Coming Soon Related Posts |
