This week’s episode of “Fringe” entitled “Immortality” featured pure soap opera gold. The storyline takes place in the alternate universe and follows Fauxlivia and her teammates Lincoln and Charlie as they try to revamp the Fringe division after Col. Broyles’ untimely death. The Plot:

A mad scientist obsessed with finding a vaccine through parasitic beetles begins to use unsuspecting humans as his test subjects. Lincoln takes over Broyles position as leader of the Fringe team, and Fauxlivia welcomes back her boyfriend Frank, who’s been away on business.

The Good:

Fauxlivia’s Pregnant: I called this news a couple weeks ago when The Observer made a generic statement to Peter about the responsibilities of being a father. I knew something was up and this week we learned that Fauxlivia is pregnant with his child. The reveal of the whole thing was quite genius. They thought she ingested the parasitic beetles and Frank and the paramedic gave her a sonogram to see what was happening and they did see “something” but it wasn’t a beetle.
The Team: OK, I admit it. Charlie and Lincoln have grown on me. When the season first began I wasn’t a fan of Fringe team B, but they’re not bad guys, they just work for one.
Walternate Doesn’t Experiment on Kids: Can you say foreshadowing? I was ready to give Walternate some props on his decision to keep children out of his experiments, unlike our Walter who had no problem injecting kids with serums. But when it was announced that Fauxlivia was pregnant it was blatantly obvious that his mind had changed. He might not experiment on the baby, but he will definitely use it to get Peter back.
Frank: I’m happy Frank asked about the baby’s conception date. When it was announced that Fauxlivia was pregnant the first thing I thought was, “How were they going to pass this kid off as his considering how far along she is?” Also, Frank said in the beginning of the episode that he’d been away for months, yet Fauxlivia was only six weeks.

The Bad:

The Beetles: I usually care about both the personal and professional storylines that occur on “Fringe” but not this week. I wasn’t interested in the psycho scientist or his obsession with making the perfect vaccine. Keep those bugs away!

Overall:

This week’s “Fringe” was a great episode. It’s setting us up for a real battle towards the end of the season. Not only will Walternate’s world have the upper hand because of Peter’s feelings for Fauxlivia but now his unborn child too! The drama!
