| Twilight Screenwriter to Pen New Highlander Posted: 09 Feb 2011 05:46 PM PST
Back in 2009, talk of a rebooted version of the fantasy film series Highlander began to rear its ugly head. We weren’t surprised by Hollywood’s surge in interest because it’s such a well established property. Not only were multiple films produced but several TV shows as well. According to THR, a serious move has been made on the development front. Summit Entertainment has hired a writer to pen the film’s script and it’s Melissa Rosenberg from Twilight!
The first Highlander film starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod the Scottish swordsman and immortal being. The original story centered on a Scottish swordsman, who discovers he is part of a secret race of near-immortal beings and faces off against an unstoppable barbarian who covets the power gained from there being only one of their kind left. The last time we checked Justin Lin was set to direct the film, and Neal Moritz was on board to produce. It’s been confirmed that Rosenberg, who’s yielded the pen for The Twilight Saga, will try her hand at the Highlander mythology. We know a lot of you are probably turned off by her involvement because of the teen vampire series, but she also wrote for Showtime’s “Dexter” if that’s any consolation. What do you think of Rosenberg penning the script for the new Highlander? Related Posts |
| Christian Bale to Reunite With The Machinist’s Brad Anderson Posted: 09 Feb 2011 04:54 PM PST
Christian Bale is going on a diet — again. The British actor will reunite with the writer and director of 2004’s The Machinist for another film called Concrete Island. Brad Anderson will helm the film from a script by Scott Kosar that’s based on J.G. Ballard’s 1974 novel of the same name. Island will have the same star, director, writer, and dramatic weight loss that was featured in The Machinist. Deja vu anyone?
According to Variety, Concrete Island centers on “a wealthy architect who finds himself stranded on a section of fenced-off wasteland in West London and is forced to survive on only what’s in his crashed car and what he’s able to find. His finds companions on the island and decides to remain there and forsake his former life.” No start date has been set for the production just yet. Bale has one little project that he needs to shoot this year, you may have heard of it — The Dark Knight Rises! Bruce Wayne can’t be skinny and frail when he’s going up against the likes of Bane. We give Bale credit for going above and beyond for his roles, but we’re scared to see what he looks like in 30 years. His poor metabolism! What do you think of Bale losing weight for another role? | Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family Teaser Trailer Posted: 09 Feb 2011 04:00 PM PST
Have you been steadily anticipating Tyler Perry’s next feature film? After For Colored Girls, the writer, director, and actor decided to lighten up and return to comedy. The teaser trailer for his newest feature entitled Madea’s Big Happy Family has been released and it’s…well….just see for yourself. Check out the trailer below…
We’re not exactly sure what that was but it’s Madea through and through. It’s been a while since Perry’s put on the gray wig, and the dress. Every few years, the character comes out to play. This time she’ll be joined by Loretta Devine, Lauren London, Shad “Bow Wow” Moss, and apparently Maury Povich. Official Synopsis:

| Stanley Tucci and Bill Nighy Cast in Jack the Giant Killer Posted: 09 Feb 2011 02:18 PM PST
Three new faces have joined the cast of Bryan Singer’s upcoming feature, Jack the Giant Killer. Say hello to Stanley Tucci, Bill Nighy, and John Kassir as the supporting actors of the film. According to Coming Soon, the trio will each play an important part in the fantasy adaptation that has yet to cast a leading man.
The most recent draft of the Jack the Giant Killer script centers on the kidnapping of a princess that threatens a long-standing peace between men and giants. A young farmer is given an opportunity to lead a dangerous expedition to the giants' kingdom in hopes of rescuing her. The screenplay was written by frequent Singer collaborator Christopher McQuarrie. The last time we checked, Aaron Johnson and Nicholas Hoult were in the running to play the title character, but no one has been confirmed. As for the other roles, Tucci “will play a ruthless advisor to the king and Nighy and Kassir two halves of a two-headed giant.” Nobody does slippery, and slimy like Tucci. We can’t wait to see his take on his character. What do you think of Tucci, Nighy, and Kassir joining the cast of Jack the Giant Killer? Related Posts |
| The Lincoln Lawyer – New Trailer, More Action Posted: 09 Feb 2011 02:00 PM PST
The Lincoln Lawyer just got a little more exciting with its new high-action trailer. It has more twists, more action, more subplots, lots of good actors — looks like it’s time for another good crime-drama-thriller (it’s a new name for an old category). Though these types of films have been done to death, there’s nothing like a good thriller to revitalize the genre and keep you on the edge of your seat. The first trailer featured a serious McConaughey which seriously worried me, but this trailer boosts an impressive supporting cast with what looks like some heavy drama and high tension. Let’s do this!
I almost always like the first trailer or teaser trailers beat, but in this case, a little more info and a little more background on everyone else in the film with my favorites Marisa Tomei and Bryan Cranston thrown into the mix and now they’ve got me hooked! Find out more about the film….
Synopsis:
The Lincoln Lawyer will be in theaters nationwide March 18, 2011! What do you think of the trailer? Related Posts |
| Guy Pearce, Mia Wasikowska, Gary Oldman Join LaBeouf and Hardy in The Wettest Country Posted: 09 Feb 2011 01:25 PM PST
There have been some new developments regarding the upcoming drama The Wettest Country. The film will be headlined by Tom Hardy and Shia LeBeouf, and according to THR they’ll get some grade-A support. Both Gary Oldman and Guy Pearce are in talks to join the cast as well as Mia Wasikowska and Jason Clarke. Who’s not in this movie?
Based on the novel The Wettest County in the World by Matt Bondurant, and on his grandfather and two great-uncles, the true gangsters story details of the saga of the Bondurant boys, bootlegging siblings who take the law into their own hands in Prohibition-era Virginia while making a run for the American Dream. Nick Cave wrote the screenplay. Oldman is set to play a gangster who engages the boys to deliver alcohol, while Pearce will star as an overly violent deputy who comes down hard on the Bondurants. Wasikowska will play LeBeouf’s love interest, a local Mennonite girl and Clarke is playing the brother to LaBeouf and Hardy. Production on the film is slated to begin this spring. | Channing Tatum Talks The Eagle, Horses, and Jamie Bell Posted: 09 Feb 2011 12:54 PM PST
This weekend Channing Tatum will headline his first period piece: The Eagle. The film is directed by Kevin MacDonald and co-stars Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland. The film is based on the book The Eagle of the Ninth, which was written by Rosemary Sutcliff and takes us into the dangerous world of second-century Britain. The premise of the film centers on a Roman officer, Marcus Flavius Aquila (Tatum), as he tries to discover the truth about the disappearance of his father’s ninth legion in Northern Britain. We recently spoke to Tatum about his take on the famous tale, and he revealed what drew him to the material, his obsession with playing soldiers, and the on set rivalry that developed between him and Bell. Check out the interview…
Channing Tatum has played more than his fair share of soldiers (G.I.Joe, Stop Loss), and he enters the battlefield once again in The Eagle. We asked the actor what it is that attracts him to those types of characters.
Speaking of responsibility and honor, during time period the film takes place, people were very protective of their names and reputation. Tatum shared his thoughts on that way of life, and why he thinks it was so important to be respected and accepted by those around you.
And when it came to help Tatum needed a lot. He participated in as many stunts the studio would allow. He rode horses, swam in a cold river, and fought off stuntmen with swords and arrows. Even one of the stunt coordinators was weary over the amount of risk the actor was taking.
He also had his fair share of trouble in the freezing water, where he had to swim against a powerful current.
Tatum spent the majority of his time on the film alongside Jamie Bell, who played his slave and traveling partner Esca. Both actors have a background in dance so we had to ask if they both bust a move at any point during the shoot.
Bell and Tatum also share a competitive spirit. Everything they did was turned into a game or a race.
As for his relationship with director, Kevin Macdonald, the actor admitted that he questioned some of his decisions early on but in the end he learned that they were for the best.
Obviously, this isn’t your grandfather’s Roman war epic. Tatum knows that The Eagle isn’t on the same level as some other major period pieces out there, but it does deliver.
The Eagle opens in theaters everywhere on February 11.

| Jennifer Aniston Joins Zach Galifianakis and Tila Tequila Between Two Ferns Posted: 09 Feb 2011 11:13 AM PST
Jennifer Aniston is hard at work promoting her new comedy Just Go With It. She recently visited the set of Funny or Die’s “Between Two Ferns with Zach Galifianakis,” and a surprising second guest — Tila Tequila. We weren’t aware that the two women had that much in common but they shared a chair and some serious awkwardness during the appearance. Check it out…
“Between Two Ferns” is known for its long pauses, awkward conversation, and simplistic setting but this episode is beyond strange. Who thought it was a good idea to partner these two women for an interview? Aniston actually plays second fiddle to Tequila, which is weird considering she has a movie coming out and Tequila has…..whatever it is that she has. We’ve seen better versions of this skit. We see what they were going for but it just doesn’t work for us. If we had to decide Funny or Die on this one, it deserves the latter. It needs to go down in a virtual ball of flames! On a lighter note, Just Go With It opens in theaters on February 11. What do you think of Aniston and Tequila on Between Two Ferns? Was it funny or should it die? Related Posts |
| New Hop Movie Trailer Has ‘The Hoff’ – David Hasselhoff That Is! Posted: 09 Feb 2011 10:19 AM PST
A new trailer has been released for the upcoming animated/live action feature Hop. The film is produced by Universal, and comes from the same people who brought us Despicable Me. The lead character is a CGI Easter Bunny who’s voiced by Russell Brand, and he links up with an unsuspecting James Marsden in Hollywood to meet his idol — David Hasselhoff. Check out the trailer…
This actually looks funny! We didn’t expect this film to be nearly has clever or sweet as it looks. Brand’s voice fits perfectly with the character and he’s so adorable. We have to admit, the design for the bunny is a lot more pleasant than the work on Despicable Me. Synopsis:

| Watch: Melissa Leo in This Red State Clip Posted: 09 Feb 2011 09:40 AM PST
After its premiere at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, Kevin Smith’s latest film Red State really caught the attention of main stream audiences. People want to know what it is. Who is in it? And how the story plays out. We can’t reveal everything, but you can definitely read our review of the film for our opinion on it. If you need something that’s more visually stimulating, MTV has just released a clip from the film that features Oscar nominee Melissa Leo. Check it out…
Red State is a horror film in which a group of misfits encounter fundamentalism gone to the extreme in Middle America. It takes on every area of politics, horror, and religion there is to take and delivers it in a way that only Kevin Smith can. This clip features Leo, along with Kyle Gallner, Michael Angarano, and Nicholas Braun. As you can see the three teens are looking to score some sexual favors from Leo’s character Sarah. To say this is an uncomfortable and odd scenario would be an understatement. Not only is she a middle aged woman engaging in sexual acts with young men (in a group), she’s also the daughter of religious leader Pastor Abin Cooper. He’s the head honcho of the extremist church the film follows. We doubt her dad would like this behavior. What do you think of the first clip from Red State? Are you interested in seeing the film? | First Look: Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover Posted: 09 Feb 2011 09:03 AM PST
Last year, Leonardo DiCaprio announced that production on his next film J. Edgar would begin sometime around February of 2011. True to his word, filming has begun and we’ve got our first look at the actor after he’s been transformed into the title character. Several photos were taken of DiCaprio while on break during the shoot in Los Angeles. You can check them out below…
J. Edgar will cover the head of the FBI and his reign from its creation in 1935 to his death in 1972. The film will be produced by Brian Grazer and has a script written by Oscar winning screenwriter Dustin Lance Black (Milk). The film stars DiCaprio, Naomi Watts, Armie Hammer, Judi Dench, Ed Westwick, Josh Lucas, Damon Herriman, and Ken Howard. We smell another Oscar nomination on the horizon for Mr. DiCaprio. He has some great source material to work with when it comes to this man’s complicated life. There are questions about Hoover’s ethics, his resources, and even his love life, all of which will be addressed in the movie. J. Edgar will be directed by Clint Eastwood. What do you think of DiCaprio’s take on Hoover? Source: JustJared Related Posts |
