| Craig Gillespie to Direct Pride and and Prejudice and Zombies Posted: 08 Feb 2011 05:37 PM PST
Have you been following the drama surrounding the feature adaptation of Pride and and Prejudice and Zombies? If not, allow us to get you up to speed. The film was originally set up as a director’s vehicle for David O. Russell, but he dropped out to take on another movie. Next, Mike White was tapped to helm the film, but he had to exit because of a scheduling conflict with another project, and now we’re hoping the third time is a charm because Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) is the latest director to be attached to the film.
Vulture confirms that Gillespie is in talks to direct Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is interesting considering he just wrapped production on the Fright Night remake. Someone’s been bitten by the horror bug! The story for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies will expand on the Jane Austen classic by adding a few blood thirty zombies into the mix. It's based on the reinterpretation of author Seth Grahame-Smith, and tells the timeless story of a woman's quest for love and independence amid the outbreak of a deadly virus that turns the undead into vicious killers. What do you think of Gillespie taking over where White and Russell left off? Related Posts |
| New Trailer for Trust Starring Clive Owen Posted: 08 Feb 2011 03:54 PM PST
Clive Owen is mad as hell, and he’s not going to take it anymore! The British actor headlines the upcoming thriller Trust, which is directed by former “Friends” star David Schwimmer. The film takes us on an extremely dark journey that mixes The Social Network with Taken. If that sounds like something you’re interested in seeing, check out the trailer…
The film's premise centers on the parents of a 14-year-old girl who are stunned to discover she has been victimized by an adult who gained her trust posing as a teenager in a chat room. Newcomer Liana Liberato plays the daughter of Owen and Catherine Keener's characters, who is sexually assaulted after meeting up with her new online "friend" in person. Movies that feature young children being taken advantage of really grinds our gears. What makes the story truly scary is how easily it can happen in real life. Who knew Ross could be so dark as a director? Should we get him to helm Taken 2? It might be up his alley. Trust opens in theaters on April 1. What do you think of Owen in Trust? | Julia Roberts Confirmed for Brothers Grimm: Snow White Posted: 08 Feb 2011 02:43 PM PST
What started off as a rumor has become a reality. Academy Award winner Julia Roberts has given in to the fairytale trend and will star in the upcoming adaptation of Snow White. No, not Snow White and the Huntsman but Relativity Media’s The Brother’s Grimm: Snow White where she’ll play the Evil Queen! Dun! Dun! Dun!
EW has confirmed that Roberts will star in Snow White, which will directly compete Charlize Theron’s performance as the Evil Queen in Snow White and The Huntsman. The Brothers Grimm version will be directed Tarsem Singh and it will be a 3D adaptation of the story that will be a little darker than what we’re used to seeing. It definitely won’t be the Disney version that we all grew up with. Roberts appears to be the only solid casting mentioned for Singh’s film. Snow White and the Huntsman already has Theron, Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart in talks to play the Huntsman and Snow White respectively. Relativity really needs to pick up the pace if they’re going compete with Universal’s production. Which version are you the most interested to see? What do you think of Roberts starring as the Evil Queen? Are you interested in seeing the film? Related Posts |
| Rosamund Pike Joining Wrath of the Titans as Andromeda? Posted: 08 Feb 2011 01:38 PM PST
What would be better than having a Bond girl in a movie? How about two?! According to a recent report from Deadline, English actress Rosamund Pike is in talks to take over the role of Andromeda, in the Clash of the Titans sequel, Wrath of the Titans.
In the first Titans, Andromeda was played by Alexa Davalos and in the film she was saved from the monstrous Kraken by Perseus. As a sign of her gratitude, she offered him a life with her but he decided to follow his own path and fight the corrupt gods instead. Davalos is being replaced because she has a prior commitment that would interfere with the movie’s production. The role of Andromeda is said to be larger and more substantial than what we saw in the first film. Pike made a big splash in 2002 when she appeared in the Bond flick Die Another Day. If everything goes according to plan for Titans, she’ll star alongside Gemma Arterton who previously appeared in Quantum of Solace. Is it bad that a part of us still wishes that Pike was cast as Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class? Talk about a missed opportunity. What do you think of Pike playing Andromeda? Related Posts |
| Meryl Streep Reunites With David Frankel for Great Hope Springs Posted: 08 Feb 2011 01:17 PM PST
David Frankel will once again join forces with his The Devil Wears Prada star Meryl Streep for his upcoming film Great Hope Springs. According to THR, Springs is a comedy that will focus on a couple and their long running relationship. Who will play Streep’s significant other? That info hasn’t been released but it needs to be someone extremely talented. Jack Nicholson are you up for this?
Great Hope Springs “centers on a middle-aged couple who after thirty years of marriage attend an intense counseling weekend to examine the intimacy issues that are threatening their marriage.” The script was written by Vanessa Taylor, and was previously on The Black List. The movie is a Mandate Pictures production and the studio expects filming to begin in August of this year. Streep is currently shooting the Margaret Thatcher biopic The Iron Lady in London. This morning we got our first look at her in the premiere role and she definitely looks the part. After nearly 40 years on the big screen, Streep is still a busy lady. We can’t wait to see who else will join the cast. They need to bring out the big guns for this one. What do you think of the Streep and Frankel joining forces — again? Related Posts |
| Richard Jenkins Cast in Cogan’s Trade Posted: 08 Feb 2011 12:53 PM PST
Good news to report regarding Andrew Dominik’s upcoming film Cogan’s Trade. The film, which already has Brad Pitt and Sam Rockwell attached, has caught the attention of another Oscar nominee. According to Variety, Richard Jenkins has officially joined the cast of the crime drama.
Cogan's Trade will center on Jackie Cogan, a professional enforcer who investigates a heist that takes place during a high stakes poker game under protection of the mob. As you might suspect, Pitt will play Jackie, while Jenkins portrays a lawyer who relays inside information about the card game. Besides Pitt, Rockwell, and Jenkins, the cast of Cogan’s Trade also includes James Gandolfini and Bella Heathcote. Production is slated to begin later this month in New Orleans. Cogan's Trade is based on a novel by George V. Higgins. Here's the official synopsis for the book below:
What do you think of Jenkins joining the cast of Cogan’s Trade? Is he a good fit? Related Posts |
| Sex and the City Prequel with Blake Lively on The Way? Posted: 08 Feb 2011 10:45 AM PST
After Sex and the City 2, we unanimously decided that the franchise had run its course. The movie wasn’t a worthy follow up to the first one or the TV series, so a lot of us cut our losses and moved on. Unfortunately, everyone doesn’t feel that way, and they want to continue beating this dead horse. According to an Australian entertainment site called Grazia, a Sex and the City PREQUEL may be in the works.
The site claims that “Gossip Girl” star Blake Lively is in the running to play a young Carrie Bradshaw, the role made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker. Apparently, Hollywood wants to try their hand at adapting The Carrie Diaries and Summer in the City. They’re the prequel novels written by author Candace Bushnell, that follows a 19 year old Bradshaw. Michael Patrick King has already expressed interest in taking on the younger version of the character, and he wants Lively as Carrie. After the flailing outcome of SATC 2, it doesn’t look like any of the actresses who appeared in the films are interested in making the series a trilogy, so we’re not surprised by this move.
We can honestly say we’re not interested in this. We doubt Lively would sign on to play a character, who’s so similar to her role on GG. Also, her film career is blossoming and she has a variety of scripts coming her way. This would be a step back for her. Would you be interested in seeing a Sex and the City prequel? Related Posts |
| House: Season 7 Episode 11: Family Practice – TV Review Posted: 08 Feb 2011 10:40 AM PST
Forget the “medical mystery” story that provides the background for every episode; “House” is a successful show because it proves that we can all enjoy character-based drama. Sure, some of its insights aren’t as deep as we would like them to be, but in an age where every other show is a generic cop drama, we’ll take what we can get. And damn, when we get it, it is good. This week’s “House” is one to remember. Read the review to find out why…
The Players:
Episode Title: “Family Practice”Cuddy’s mom visits the hospital suffering from, as is often the case with “House”, a variety of bizarre symptoms. Unhappy with the prospect of treating his girlfriend’s mother, House is initially convinced that she is suffering from little more than a case of hypochondria. However, when her condition worsens, he is fired from the case and must cure her covertly, putting the careers of his team at risk. In the meantime, Taub takes on a consulting job at his brother-in-law’s law firm, but he finds it difficult to square his own beliefs with the ethics of the firm. The Good:
The So-So:
The Bad:
Overall:A very strong episode that proves that “House” is as relevant as ever. This show is, at its core, about human relationships, and we get plenty of that in this episoe. The complaints are minor. It was another classic. Rating: 9/10“House” airs every Monday on FOX! Photo Gallery: What did you think of last night’s episode? Tell us in the comments! Related Posts |
| New DVD Releases: Life As We Know It, For Colored Girls, Paranormal Activity 2 Posted: 08 Feb 2011 10:30 AM PST A surprisingly large array of DVDs this week, and a bit of something for everybody. This week’s offerings are loaded with horror movies, rom-coms, Tyler Perry flicks and even a porno-thriller. Oh yeah. And in the midst of this hodgepodge of fun, we’ve also managed to locate the Mowry twins of “Sister Sister”. It’s definitely an interesting week on DVD. Check it all out below…
Feature FilmsI never even thought about seeing this film, because the trailer for Life As We Know It is in what I like to now call the “Just Go With It Zone”. I’ve recently christened this zone based on the trailers for the off-putting new Adam Sandler film. The spots where we see a man making up a family (of course), hating the children (naturally) and then falling on his balls (hilarious!). This zone is named for the following thought I have watching this trailer: “Who is actually sitting at home, seeing this commercial coming on television and saying to themselves, ‘Wow! That looks great. I have to see that!’” It’s a reaction that I can’t possibly see anybody having to this trailer. The spot makes the film look so gut-wrenchingly bad that I can’t imagine a carbon-based life form actually being spurred to see this thing. And that’s where Life As We Know It comes in. Here’s what the trailer makes the movie seem to be: Two people go out on a bad first date. For some reason their mutual friends appoint them joint custody of their kid when they die. Somehow a court thinks this is a good idea and throws them into the house together to raise the child. The kid throws cake at them. They end up falling in love. Again, I don’t know if any of that is true, but that’s exactly what the trailer for this film makes the storyline out to be. And it raises the question: Who would see that trailer and actually want to go see this movie? It baffles me. But if you are one of those people you can buy Life As We Know It on DVD. Also:

| Castle: Season 3 Episode 14: Lucky Stiff -TV Review Posted: 08 Feb 2011 10:10 AM PST
This week on "Castle," the team investigates the murder of a lottery winner. Martha struggles with the decision of accepting, and deciding how to spend, a large sum of money she inherits but feels she doesn’t deserve while everyone at the precinct shares what they would do if they won the lottery. Everyone, that is, except Beckett. Will she tell Castle what she’d spend a winning lottery ticket on, or will she keep him guessing? Find out in our review…
The Players:
Episode Title: "Lucky Stiff"When lottery winner Jay Hixton is murdered in his lavish apartment, the team runs through a list of suspects from all levels of wealth to find his killer, including Hixton’s obsequious yet thieving butler, his daughter’s narcotics-dealing boyfriend, two childhood friends recently released from prison, and those he came in contact with at the poorhouse, where he gave back out of a seeming winner’s guilt. Coincidentally, Martha feels undeserving of a million-dollar inheritance as bequeathed by her boyfriend because she was planning to end their relationship. On the advice of Beckett, she decides how to spend the money in a way that will honor her late beau and give back to the community. In the end, Castle not only guesses what Beckett would do with the money she hypothetically won, he took it upon himself to put the merely-fantasized plans to action. The Good:
The So-So:
The Quotable:
Overall:This week's "Castle" considered the duality of wealth as both a blessing and a burden, exploring the social and moral responsibilities one faces as owner of such wealth in a way that was touching and thought-provoking. Rating: 9/10"Castle" airs Monday nights at 10pm on ABC. Photo Gallery: Agree? Disagree? What would you buy if you won the lottery? Let us know in the comments! Related Posts |
| Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster’s The Beaver Gets Pushed to May Posted: 08 Feb 2011 10:03 AM PST
Mel Gibson and his beaver continue to have problems. By beaver we’re referring to his dark comedy that co-stars and is directed by Jodie Foster. The Summit Entertainment production took forever to get an official release date, and now it’s being pushed back. The film was originally scheduled to hit theaters on March 23, but now it’s been delayed until May where it will duke it out with the summer blockbusters!
Summit has announced that The Beaver will officially hit theaters on May 6 in limited release and will expand into wide on May 20. In other words, it’s going head to head with Marvel’s Thor. Good luck with that one. This film will have a hard enough time finding audiences but amongst the summer’s superhero influx, it might never be found. The Beaver is an emotional story about a man on a journey to re-discover his family and re-start his life. Plagued by his own demons, Walter Black (Gibson) was once a successful toy executive and family man who now suffers from depression. No matter what he tries, Walter can't seem to get himself back on track… until a beaver hand puppet enters his life. What do you think of Summit’s decision to move the release date?
