| Richard Gere Replaces Al Pacino in Arbitrage Posted: 07 Feb 2011 05:24 PM PST
We have some good and bad news to report regarding the upcoming drama Arbitrage. According to Deadline, Oscar winner Al Pacino is no longer attached to star as the lead. But don’t fret because one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. The silver-haired Richard Gere is now in talks to pick up where Pacino left off.
Arbitrage will be directed by Nicholas Jarecki and will center on “a troubled hedge fund magnate desperate to complete the sale of his trading empire makes an error that forces him to turn to an unlikely person for help.” Jarecki also penned the script. The rest of the cast features Eva Green and Susan Sarandon. Production on the film is set to begin in mid-April in New York. We’re not sure if Pacino ever signed on the dotted line prior to Gere’s involvement but either way we’re happy with the end result. Gere is a talented actor who sometimes gets overlooked or out-shined by his co-stars. Perhaps this film will give him the material and opportunity to get some overdo recognition. What do you think of Gere starring in Arbitrage? Is he a good fit? Related Posts |
| Michael Moore Sues Weinsteins Over Fahrenheit 9/11 Posted: 07 Feb 2011 04:33 PM PST
Michael Moore’s angry again and this time the Weinsteins are on the receiving end of his wrath. The Oscar winning director has a bone to pick with the producing duo over his 2004 film Fahrenheit 9/11. He recently filed a lawsuit against Harvey and Bob Weinstein regarding the film and (you guessed it) the money they earned.
Moore claims that the Weinsteins have cheated him out of a $2.7 million profit generated from his documentary. “The suit claims the Fellowship Adventure Group — the company the Weinstein brothers formed specifically to release Moore's white-hot button documentary, in partnership with Lionsgate and IFC Films — and Moore agreed to a 50/50 split of the profits from the film, but the Fellowship Adventure Group "failed and refused to share equally in the fruits of the venture as the partners agreed." (Fahrenheit 9/11 brought in $222.4 million in worldwide box office, and remains the highest-grossing documentary of all time.) The suit is also seeking punitive damages.” The Weinstein’s aren’t taking this suit lying down. When EW contacted their legal representation Bert Fields, he stated that Moore has earned more than $20 million from Fahrenheit and “he’s not entitled to another dime." If that wasn’t harsh enough, he went on to call the lawsuit "absolute baloney." If that’s not professional, we don’t know what is. What do you think of Moore vs the Weinsteins? Who should win? | Two-Hour Smallville Series Finale Will Air May 13 Posted: 07 Feb 2011 03:49 PM PST
The end of an era is near. The CW has announced the date for the final episode of “Smallville.” The long running series has been on the air for a decade, and has followed the humble beginning of Clark Kent from an awkward teenager to a man. His legacy will come full circle this May, when he finally takes the leap we’ve all been waiting for.
“Smallville” will end with a special two-hour finale event that will surely end with a bang. The CW will present the final episode on Friday, May 13 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET.
After the airing, “Supernatural” will appear the following Friday May 20 at 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET for its own two-hour finale. After all these years it’s really happening. We wonder what the final shot of the show will be? Perhaps Clark wearing the traditional Superman suit and flying into the sky? Or maybe he’ll finally dawn that famous curl in his hair? Or will he recite Superman’s mantra of fighting for truth, justice, and the American way? So many things can happen! Are you excited for the Smallville finale? Source: Collider Related Posts |
| Super Bowl XLV Most Watched US TV Program of All Time! Posted: 07 Feb 2011 02:41 PM PST
It’s no surprise that Super Bowl XLV was the most watched television program of the year. The championship game always rakes in the numbers, and produces an ungodly amount of ad revenue in the process. This year was even more extraordinary than most, because the game brought in a record breaking amount of viewers.
According to a press release sent out by the Fox Network, Super Bowl XLV brought in an astounding 111 million viewers. This made Fox the first network ever to exceed 100 million viewers for a program in prime time. FOX Sports' broadcast of Super Bowl XLV averaged 111 million viewers and is the most-watched television program in U.S. history, obliterating the prior record of 106.5 set last year during Super Bowl XLIV by 4.5 million viewers and the 106.0 million for the series finale of M*A*S*H, which held the viewership record from 1983 to 2010. This is the fourth consecutive Super Bowl to set a viewership record, and attracted 13.5 million more viewers than FOX's last Super Bowl broadcast in 2008 (97.5 million) for the New York Giants upset of the undefeated New England Patriots. No other major sporting event has ever hit a record high in four consecutive years. This also marks the sixth straight year that Super Bowl viewership has increased, and over that span average Super Bowl viewership has increased from 86.1 million in 2005 to 111.0 million, a gain of nearly 25 million viewers. The game posted a 46.0/69 household rating/share tying Super Bowl XXX in 1996 (Dallas-Pittsburgh) as the highest-rated since Super Bowl XX in 1986 (48.3/70, Chicago vs. New England). Only eight of the 45 Super Bowls played had a higher rating, and all were played in a nine-year span between 1978 and 1986. Is anyone really surprised by these numbers? The amount of hype surrounding this game was beyond over the top. If we heard the phrase “black and yellow” one more time we might have hurt someone. Are you shocked by the amount of viewers who tuned in? Source: Coming Soon Related Posts |
| Transformers Dark of the Moon Super Bowl TV Spot Posted: 07 Feb 2011 01:51 PM PST
Transformers Dark of the Moon made its presence known at this year’s Super Bowl with an epic TV spot. The footage reintroduced Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky and his robot protector Bumblebee. We also got a shot of the new female lead Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Optimus Prime, who has some new battle gear. Check it out…
Supposedly, the film picks up where Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen left off. We’re not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. We don’t want any remnants of the film to appear in this one. There has to be a significant shift in time because Sam appears to be in a new city and has a new girlfriend. We’re not too invested in this movie, but we will admit that Optimus Prime’s new armor looks pretty amazing. That entire sequence of him spinning around while slicing and dicing Decepticons is great. What’s your favorite part of the TV spot? Do you think the movie will live up to the hype? Transformers Dark of the Moon is scheduled to hit theaters on July 1, 2011. | Steven Spielberg’s Terra Nova Super Bowl Commercial Posted: 07 Feb 2011 01:01 PM PST
One of the few television shows to earn an ad spot during this year’s Super Bowl was “Terra Nova.” This shouldn’t come as a surprise considering it’s a Fox series and it’s executive produced by Steven Spielberg. We haven’t seen or heard much from the show with the exception of a few photos here and there, and last night was the first time any footage was shown. If you missed it, you can check out the TV spot below…
Is anyone else getting a Jurassic Park vibe from this? Even though Spielberg has given it his blessing, and Stephen Lang is the villain of choice, we’re not interested. Something about this show comes across as “wrong place, wrong time.” Perhaps if it aired 10 years ago — on The WB it would work? Are we being too harsh? Official Synopsis:

| Fast Five Super Bowl Commercial Posted: 07 Feb 2011 12:13 PM PST
Did you really think we were done with the excessive Super Bowl promotions? Nope! There’s more where that came from. Another movie that got some prime ad time during last night’s big game was Fast Five. The fifth installment in the long running Fast and the Furious franchise. It was 30 seconds of high octane action that featured a very angry Dwayne Johnson. Check it out…
Did you catch that last shot? Not only were Paul Walker and Vin Diesel speeding on a curved highway but they jumped off a cliff and out of a car simultaneously! Talk about taking the Thelma and Louis moment to the extreme. We hope that’s not the last scene in the film. That would be both a rip off and a spoiler. Official Synopsis:

| Mike Newell to Direct Great Expectations Posted: 07 Feb 2011 11:21 AM PST
After the uneven travesty that was Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, director Mike Newell needs a rebound — fast! Luckily for him, he’s landed a new gig that will have him to take on more classic material. According to THR, Newell will helm a new adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel Great Expectations.
You might be asking yourself, “how many versions of this story can Hollywood make?” We’re not sure, but something tells us we’re nowhere near the end of this phenomenon. The trade reports that Newell will direct the feature, which “will be part of a year-round celebration of Charles Dickens’ bicentenary in 2012.” Isn’t that convenient? Here’s the official synopsis of the book:
We wonder who’ll play Pip and Estella in this version? What do you think of Newell taking on Great Expectations? Is he the right choice? Related Posts |
| Shawn Levy to Direct Fantastic Voyage Posted: 07 Feb 2011 10:46 AM PST
Are you ready to go on a Fantastic Voyage? Apparently Shawn Levy is because according to Deadline, he’ll helm the 20th Century Fox and James Cameron produced epic of the same name. The last time we heard anything about the project was last March when Paul Greengrass was in talks to direct, which is no longer the case.
Sources close to the project claim that Levy will direct a 3D reimagining of the 1966 film that originally starred Raquel Welch and Stephen Boyd. The film centered on “a team of scientists shrunk into a ship in an attempt to save a colleague’s life.” We’re hearing that a big chunk of the movie will be CGI following the crew’s initial transformation. The script is written by Shane Salerno, with Laeta Kalogridis working on a polish. Levy seems to be making a serious change in his career. He’s gone from helming comedies (Night at the Museum),to action flicks (Real Steel), and now he’s reworking a sci-fi classic. We wonder what it is about him that has Cameron and Fox convinced he’s the man for the job? We don’t have anything against the guy, but this is a tentpole for the studio that has name recognition attached to it. What will the die hard fans think? | The Hobbit To Start Filming March 21 Posted: 07 Feb 2011 09:56 AM PST
After multiple delays, last minute castings, and a health scare, The Hobbit is on the move! The film’s production was pushed back after director and producer Peter Jackson had to go in for surgery to repair a perforated ulcer. The procedure sounds pretty painful and we weren’t sure what effect it would have on the production. Thankfully, Jackson has recovered and given fans a glimmer of hope by announcing The Hobbit’s production start date.
The Hobbit’s production company Foot7 Ltd announced on Monday morning that principal photography on the film will begin on March 21. Jackson went on to say, “Despite some delays we are fully back on track and very excited to get started.” Ltd also revealed that the March 21 date was chosen for practical reasons.
