james franco 3 1 11 kc James Franco Up For Oz, The Great and Powerful?
James Franco’s career has experienced a serious surge over the past year. He has an Oscar nomination under his belt, he’s hosting this year’s ceremony, and new film roles are consistently being offered to him. The latest is from Sam Raimi and Disney for their Wizard of Oz prequel Oz The Great and Powerful. Robert Downey Jr. was originally set to play the title character, but he dropped out. Johnny Depp was then offered the role, but he declined, and now the studio’s trying their luck with Franco.

According to THR, Franco’s deal hasn’t been finalized but talks are ongoing for him to star in the film. Oz the Great and Powerful shows the wizard as a charlatan who's part of a traveling circus but goes on a similar odyssey as Dorothy when he mysteriously lands in Oz. He's a ring master who gets swept up in a tornado and lands in the mysterious world where he gets mistaken for a know-it-all. This is the first directing project that Raimi has accepted since Sony scrapped the Spider-Man 4 sequel.
The casting for this film seems to be all over the place. From Downey to Depp didn’t seem like that much of a stretch because they look similar with their dark hair, eyes, and age but Franco’s significantly younger than the two. What are they going for exactly?
Do you think Franco would play a good Wizard of Oz?

limitless trailer Bradley Cooper in Limitless Super Bowl TV Spot
Super Bowl Sunday is right around the corner and TV spots are dropping left and right. Several film ads have already been released this week, and the latest is for Neil Burger’s Limitless. Check it out…

Every movie that centers on corruption, politics, and business should have Kanye West’s “Power” has its background music. Is it just us, or does that song fit every scenario that has to do with greed and excess? Do you remember the wonders it worked for The Social Network? We’re more than a little intrigued to see what else this film has to offer.
    Official Synopsis:
Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro star in Limitless, a paranoia-fueled action thriller about an unpublished writer whose life is transformed by a top-secret smart drug that allows him to use 100% of his brain and become a perfect version of himself. ben affleck 4 2 11 kc Ben Affleck to Direct George Clooneys Argo
Ben Affleck is two for two when it comes to directing high quality dramas, and it looks like he might have found project number three. According to EW, Affleck is in talks to direct Argo, a political thriller that’s set up a Warner Bros through George Clooney and his producing partner Grant Heslov. Affleck loves good material, and this film is right up his ally.

Argo is based on an article that appeared in Wired magazine about “a stranger-than-fiction CIA rescue operation during the occupation of the American embassy in Tehran in 1979, when six U.S. diplomats were held hostage. The CIA hatched a scheme involving disguises and a fake Hollywood film crew on a location-scouting mission to help get the captives out of the country.”
If everything goes according to plan, and Affleck does take on Argo, it will mark the first time that the director has ever worked with Clooney. His brother Casey and close friend Matt Damon have both worked with the actor in the past in the Oceans‘ film series.
What do you think of Affleck and Clooney teaming up? Do you think Argo is a good fit for the director?

Captain America The First Avenger 4 2 11 kc New Captain America Poster Wants to Avenge!!!
This week has been littered with Captain America goodies, and Marvel has decided to end it with a bang! The studio has released a teaser poster that features Chris Evans as the superhero and he’s got one thing on his mind. The tagline reads “Avenge,” which is pretty self explanatory considering who he’ll become. Check out the full sized poster below…

Captain America The First Avenger Full 4 2 11 kc New Captain America Poster Wants to Avenge!!!
It looks like the Captain is caught in the middle of a sh*tstorm…literally. The poster doesn’t blow (pun intended) us away but it’s a lot better than we expected it to be. It’s interesting that they chose an image of Evans without the face mask. Perhaps, they realize how corny it would look to a mass audience?
We know that a lot of people love Captain America and his suit, but you have to admit that amongst all the Avengers him and Thor are running neck and neck in the ridiculous costume department.
Besides Evans the film also stars Hayley Atwell, Hugo Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough.
Captain America: The First Avenger hits theaters on July 22.

jamie bell 2 4 11 kc Jamie Bell Compares Tintin to Indiana Jones, Talks Motion Capture, and Steven Spielberg
Jamie Bell plays a very important role in the upcoming motion-capture, 3D epic, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. He’s the title character in the adaptation that’s helmed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. We recently spoke with Bell at the press junket for The Eagle and he talked about his love for Tintin but his initial reluctance to do motion capture because he had no idea what the technology entailed. He also spoke about the film’s story and whether or not he thinks it will appeal to American audiences.

When Bell was first approached to do Tintin, he was skeptical:
“What is it? That was my first thing initially. What is it? How do you do it? What does it require? How does it work? Does it even work? Let me see some evidence of it working. I watched some of those motion capture films, which were very early and primitive in terms of the technology. All props to Robert Zemeckis for kind of spearheading the industry in saying that this is something we need to take note of.”
On his first experience working with motion capture:
“I knew everything about Tintin. I was already a Tintinophile or Tintinologist. I was very into that so it was literally trying to understand the mechanics of the technology. You want me to stand in a gray room and act as though I’m in a sea plane in the middle of the ocean, in the middle of the Sahara desert with nothing around me that informs anything about this character’s journey? Anything about anything in the physical world? That’s great because it just means that I can make it all up!”
The Adventures of Tintin Captain Haddock and Tintin Jamie Bell Compares Tintin to Indiana Jones, Talks Motion Capture, and Steven Spielberg
On whether or not the story of Tintin will attract American viewers:
“I think anyone who understands and appreciates Indiana Jones, understands Tintin and they don’t even know what it is yet. I feel like it’s not going to be difficult. I think the characters are great because they all have human flaws. The Tintin character is a very driven and ambitious guy. The structure of the story and the adventure is something we all know and love. There’s something at the end and they’ve got to get to it. There’s a very bizarre and quirky and exciting relationship in the center of it between these two guys. And there’s Steven Spielberg at the helm, who does this story incredibly well.”
On Spielberg’s first motion capture experience:
“For Steven, it’s new technology for him. I think before Jurassic Park CGI wasn’t a common word. We didn’t really understand what it meant so he kind of invented CGI. He put it into people’s living rooms and we kind of understood what it meant. In the similar way that James Cameron has kind of made motion capture understandable. Steven Spielberg is such a household name, and so linked to childhood and fantasy for children and dreams, I think he will make motion capture something that we understand and appreciate.”
The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn is scheduled to hit theaters on December 28, 2011.

30 Rock Que Sorpresa Tina Fey 30 Rock: Season 5 Episode 13: Que Sorpresa! TV Review
30 Rock” hasn’t been as consistently entertaining this season as it has in the past, and most of the episodes feel unbalanced. Some jokes are fantastic, others are predictable, and others are just simply not funny. It’s still good comedy television, but “30 Rock” is usually great comedy television, and it hasn’t lived up to its previous four seasons thus far. Sadly, the same can be said about last night’s episode, which was at times hilarious and insightful, and at other times dull and disappointing. Read our review to find out why…

    The Players:

    Episode Title: “Que Sorpresa!”

With Avery in the running for a new newscaster position, she’s hiding her pregnancy from potential employers. When cornered by her competition while shopping for baby items, Liz takes the fall by pretending to be pregnant, a lie which she must maintain until Avery gets her new job. Jack is adjusting to the friendly, democratic policies of Kabletown executive Hank Cooper. Tracy and Jenna fight over a Kabletown sweater.

    The Good:

    • Carmen Chao: Avery’s competition for the new position is a fellow newscaster whose ethnicity remains a mystery to all who watch her program. The writers of “30 Rock” can always be counted on for jokes such as this, which pick out the little details of modern life that we didn’t know we could relate to.
    • Jack: We get some good “Jack is an evil executive” moments in this episode, specifically when he points to a watch that Don Geiss gave him for “firing a man on his deathbed” and offering to take Kenneth to a restaurant where you can “watch a child play with a bunny, then eat the bunny!”
    • Voice-activated TV: Jack pitches a new innovation to Hank Cooper which would make remotes obsolete by responding to the vocal commands of users. However, there are still some glitches in the system, and when Jack says “crap,” the TV responds by switching to “Keeping Up With the Kardashians.”

    The So-So:

    • Liz’s pregnancy: Liz feigning pregnancy could have been a hilarious plot, but instead, it isn’t all that memorable. Sure, there are a few good jokes sprinkled throughout the episode, but not enough for this kind of story.
    • Staff ideas: Hank Cooper encourages Jack to look for innovative ideas that the “TGS” staff might have, and while they are somewhat funny, they are also predictable. Pete wants a button that would make it easier to turn porn off when his children walk in the room, Frank wants to star in an over-the-top action film, and Kenneth wants to hide unsavory elements of shows, like nudity and soccer. Brian Williams’ idea is a winner, though.

    The Bad:

    • Tracy and Jenna: When the least compelling subplot of an episode is the one which involves Tracy, you know you’ve made a mistake. The entire Tracy/Jenna joke this episode is that they both want a Kabletown sweater. And, uh, that’s it. Not too many laughs there.
    • Elizabeth Banks: Give this woman some comedy! She can do it! Did anyone here see The 40 Year Old Virgin? She’s not going to let her looks get in the way of a good laugh. Right now, she’s just on the show to be attractive, and that’s a total waste of her considerable talents. Her character doesn’t lend itself to wacky humor, but we can still throw a few more funny lines her way, right? Please??

    Overall:

A forgettable episode that doesn’t deliver on what “30 Rock” usually promises. Some good jokes, but we weren’t laughing the whole time, like we usually do during this show. It wasn’t a complete failure by any means, but it felt like a lazy effort all around.

    Rating: 6/10

channign tatum 10 8 10 kc Channing Tatum Says 21 Jump Street Will Be Insane, They Want Johnny Depp to Star
Earlier today, we got the opportunity to speak to Channing Tatum, while he was out promoting his latest feature The Eagle. The star shed some light on his upcoming film  21 Jump Street, which is the big screen adaptation of the popular 80’s TV show that made Johnny Depp famous. Tatum revealed that the film’s script is like nothing he’s ever seen before and he’s really excited about it. He also spoke about teaming up with Jonah Hill and their never ending quest to get Depp for a cameo. Check out what else he had to say…

On the script for 21 Jump Street:
21 Jump Street will be the most insane ride that you will ever go on. It’s the most ridiculous script I’ve ever read in my entire life. I’ve read a lot of insane scripts and this one takes the cake. The stuff that we’re going to get to do — you’re just gonna be like, ‘I can’t believe that they’re getting to do this.’”
When asked about working alongside Hill, who’s known for his improv, Tatum has no idea what to expect.
“Who knows? Truly. It’s going to be just bonkers. We’re going to go crazy with this movie. I hope I can keep up with the kid.”
On getting Johnny Depp to appear in the film:
“We’re beating on his door so hard that I hope he answers. Yeah, we would freak out I think. We’re on top of it every single day. I think we send him something every single day.”
On the part that’s already written for Depp:
“It will be a surprise. If and when it does happen, it will be crazy and true to form. And as brilliant as he is, it will be true to form to him.”
Tatum really has us wondering what’s in that script?! Depp has expressed interest in making a cameo multiple times in the past. We hope they work something out because we’d love to see what Tom Hanson’s been up to over the past 20 years.
Do you think that Depp will appear in the film? Are you excited about the remake?

Nikita Nikita and the Prince 3 2 11 kc Nikita: Season 1 Episode 13: Coup de Grace TV Review
This week’s episode of “Nikita” was entitled “Coup de Grace” and it centered on what else…a prince and his princess. Now that our favorite spy has linked up with her sidekick Alex on the outside, their missions are getting more intense. This time, they have to stop an assassination, an overzealous group leader, and Michael from killing a future king and a room full of hostages! Check out the review to see what happened…

    The Players:

    Episode Title: “Coup de Grace”

In “Coup de Grace,” Alex is assigned to a group whose sole purpose is to assassinate a young prince, which in turn will give his bride to be full power over the throne. Once her and Nikita are both inside they learn that the bride, Princess Kristina is behind the attempt and Nikita tries to save Prince Malik and his true love Leela from an unsavory fate.

    The Good:

    • The Prince/Leela: Even though his life was on the line, the love and dedication the prince had for Leela was admirable. I thought at some point he would throw her under the bus or she would betray him but that moment never happened.
    • Alex: Alex is getting really good at this covert/mole stuff. The over the top dialogue with Nikita that was filled with subliminal messages was a nice touch. Sure she broke Leela’s finger in the process but in the end she saved her life. Would you rather have a broken finger or a shattered skull from a bullet wound?
    • Caught in the Act: Speaking of Alex’s tactics, we knew something would tip off Michael regarding her behavior. Everything else looked up to code but Nikita calling her on Leela’s headset seemed like a dumb move. The entire place was surrounded by cameras, and at the end of the episode it looked as if Michael was getting a close look at what she was really saying to Nikita. The look of concern on her face when she got the call was a dead giveaway.

    The So-So:

    • Princess Kristina: Were we really supposed to be surprised that Princess Kristina was behind the attempted assassination of her husband to be? I get that it was supposed to be a “shocking” but that’s been done before. Give us something new please.

    The Bad:

    • Leela Pushing Buttons: Leela was getting a little too close for comfort when she was dropping hints to Kristina about knowing the truth. All she had to do was sit down and be quiet, but she kept pushing Kristina’s buttons. She even went on to question Alex about her involvement. Live now, question later!

    Overall:

This week’s episode was decent but not great. At the center of it all was a sweet love story but other than that there’s nothing to write home about. Plus, Birkhoff was seriously M.I.A., and so was creepy Amanda. What’s up with that?

    Rating: 7.5/10

The Office The Search Rainn Wilson The Office: Season 7 Episode 14: The Search TV Review
A major story arc of “The Office“ that has spanned this season and last arrived exactly where we all knew it was headed tonight, although it felt fairly anticlimactic. Maybe it’s hard to make a moment that everyone foresaw feel poignant, but it’s disappointing to think that something we waited this long for had little effect. Add to that an absence of good jokes, and we can’t say we were too thrilled with this episode. Read our review to find out why…

    The Players:

    Episode Title: “The Search”

Michael is eager to get into a relationship with Holly but she’s not ready to commit to someone again. However, on a car trip with Jim, Michael uses a gas station restroom and is left behind when Jim must rush home after hearing this his mother-in-law locked his baby in the car, and Holly, Dwight and Erin go searching for him. In the meantime, Pam holds a “caption contest” at the office, but Gabe’s rules make it difficult for anyone to participate.

    The Good:

    • Creed’s photo: The best comedy shows (“The Simpsons” springs to mind) pay attention to all the little details in a scene; if there’s laughs to be had, a good comedy writer will find them. Case in point: Michael dines at a Chinese restaurant but is unable to pay, earning his photo a spot on the “thief” wall. As it turns out, a coworker of his was also on that wall…
    • Dwight: Hunter, gatherer, personal security guard–if it’s a “manly” occupation, Dwight thinks that he’s already mastered it. His insistence on proving himself as a “tracker” in this episode isn’t unique, but classic Dwight moments like that one are still funny. His extremely racist treatment of an employee at the Chinese restaurant was also very entertaining.

    The So-So:

    • Michael and Holly: A nearly telepathic mental connection between Michael and Holly leads them to the same rooftop, where they share a long-awaited kiss. But it feels rushed. Maybe it is because we know Michael will soon be off the show, and it feels like everything is wrapping up too quickly, but for some reason, it just didn’t have the same emotional impact as moments like Jim’s proposal to Pam.
    • Caption Contest: Going back to what we were saying about squeezing as much comedy into one episode as possible–”The Office” used to be good at balancing a few subplots within an episode to get the maximum amount of jokes in. Sadly, while half this episode is spent focusing on the occasionally amusing search for Michael, the other half is spent focusing on the barely amusing caption contest side story. In the early seasons, these kinds of plots either allowed the personalities of the office workers to shine, or highlighted the budding relationships going on among the the characters. Now they’re just becoming filler material.

    The Bad:

    • Jim and Pam: These two used to be the emotional core of the show. Now they’re little more than background characters. It would be nice if any of the other romantic subplots were as effective as theirs was, but all the other ones involve goofy characters who are hard to take seriously on an emotional level. We miss what these two brought to the show.

    Overall:

It’s hard to view an episode like this objectively because given the momentous nature of what is happening, we want it to be the best episode of the season. We want it to warm our hearts, but if it can’t do that, it should at least be able to make us laugh. It fails in both respects, so it’s safe to say this episode was a disappointment.

    Rating: 5/10
