| James Franco, Anne Hathaway, Ryan Reynolds Cover Vanity Fair Hollywood Issue Posted: 01 Feb 2011 05:30 PM PST
It’s that time of the year again, Vanity Fair is about to release their annual Hollywood issue. We have to admit, this year’s stars are a lot more interesting and diverse than the group from 2010. It features everyone from Ryan Reynolds to Noomi Rapace. The majority of the three-tier cover models include young Hollywood favorites and one legend who managed to sneak in between the pages. Find out who below…
In order of appearance, the cover features: Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal, Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Jennifer Lawrence, Anthony Mackie, Olivia Wilde, Jesse Eisenberg, Mila Kunis, Robert Duvall, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Andrew Garfield, Rashida Jones, Garrett Hedlund and Noomi Rapace. Somehow they convinced the talented Robert Duvall to sit in the background while these young, whipper snappers grab all the attention. We’re not sure how that happened but it did. Another important question to ask is, where is Tom Hardy? What about Ryan Gosling? And why is Joseph Gordon Levitt just now making an appearance? There are so many questions and not enough answers. Who do you think has been omitted from this prestigious group? What do you think of the 2011 Hollywood Issue cover? Related Posts |
| Russell Brand to Host SNL, Musical Guest Chris Brown Posted: 01 Feb 2011 04:18 PM PST
Russell Brand has been announced as the newest host of “Saturday Night Live” according to an official press release posted by NBCUniversal. The British comedian will appear alongside musical guest Chris Brown, both of whom will be making their debut appearances on the show. We’re surprised that this is Brand’s first time on that famous SNL stage.
Brand will appear on the February 12th episode, and he’ll have a hard act to follow. This week, SNL alum Dana Carvey will make his return to the show he used to call home many years ago. We’re assuming Brand will be promoting his upcoming film Hop, which is slated to hit theaters on April 1st, as well as the remake Arthur, which opens on April 8th. Why is he hosting so early to promote spring releases? Perhaps they couldn’t fit him into their busy schedule? It would be great to see Brand or Brown appear in an SNL Digital Short. A lot of the musical guests somehow find themselves embedded in The Lonely Island’s videos. Just last week Nicki Minaj appeared as a “creep.” Are you excited about Brand and Brown appearing on Saturday Night Live? Related Posts |
| Kung Fu Panda 2 Super Bowl Spot Posted: 01 Feb 2011 03:16 PM PST
Did you really think that Transformers Dark of the Moon would be the only film advertised at this year’s Super Bowl? Kung Fu Panda 2 is getting in on the action as well, and its ad actually features footage from the movie! The 30 second commercial debuted on Entertainment Tonight, and we’ve got the video right here. Check it out…
As you can see from the phrasing, they will “wok you” this year! This commercial is actually pretty funny and makes us remember why we fell in love with the first movie. We’re excited for the sequel, what about you? Official Synopsis:
Kung Fu Panda 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 27, 2011 and it will be in 3D. What do you think of the Super Bowl spot for Kung Fu Panda 2? Related Posts |
| Video: Transformers Super Bowl Ad Features Bumblebee Posted: 01 Feb 2011 02:41 PM PST
Super Bowl commercials have come out a little early this year. The big game doesn’t take place until February 6, but we’ve got one of this year’s most anticipated ads right now! Chevrolet decided to do a little cross promotion with Transformers Dark of the Moon by featuring everyone’s favorite yellow Camaro in their commercial. Unfortunately for them, Bumblee doesn’t like being put on display. Watch the full video below…
A few weeks ago we learned that Transformers Dark of the Moon was one of the films that would receive ad time during this year’s Super Bowl. We were under the impression that it would be a new trailer, not a Chevy ad. We’re not sure if this is the ad itself or if there’s another one waiting in the wings. We guess we’ll have to wait and find out on Sunday. Besides Bumblebee, the film will feature the return of Shia LaBeouf, Tyrese Gibson, and Josh Duhamel, are you ready? Transformers Dark of the Moon hits theaters on July 1, 2011 and will be in 3D. What do you think of Chevy’s Transformers inspired ad? Related Posts |
| The Kennedys Miniseries Finds a Home…On ReelzChannel Posted: 01 Feb 2011 02:08 PM PST
Over the past month, a dark cloud has been hovering over the miniseries The Kennedys. The project was originally produced for The History Channel, but shortly after its completion the network decided not to air it. The film was left in limbo and no one, (we mean no one) wanted to pick it up. Luckily for them, another cable network has finally come to their rescue — ReelzChannel.
You might be asking yourself, “Reelz? Really?” Yes, really! The network sent out an olive branch to the series producers and according to a recent announcment they’ve accepted their offer. The film stars Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Robert F. Kennedy, and Tom Wilkinson as the family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy, and Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy. The Kennedys will air on April 3 in the U.S., and on March 6 in Canada. In an interview with THR, ReelzChannel CEO Stan Hubbard said “he hopes the attention surrounding the project will bring new viewers to his network and help it win carriage from such cable systems as Cablevision and Cox, which currently do not carry the channel. ” In other words, this has nothing to do with the quality of the content. He’s all about getting exposure, which is something this movie has definitely received a lot of. What do you think of ReelzChannel picking up The Kennedys? Related Posts |
| Cameron Diaz Joins Colin Firth in Gambit Posted: 01 Feb 2011 01:33 PM PST
Over the past year, Ethan and Joel Coen, along with director Michael Hoffman have been developing a remake of the 1966 film Gambit. We know a lot of you were probably thinking of the famous X-Men character when you read the title, but alas, it’s not him. He may not be a mutant, but this Gambit is also a thief, and he’ll be played by Oscar hopeful Colin Firth. Deadline is reporting that the female lead, which was previously played by Shirley MacLaine, has been filled with Cameron Diaz.
The original Gambit centered on a cat burglar who tries to rob a billionaire of his priceless statue and enlists the help of a waitress who is a dead ringer for the victim's late wife. While the burglar has carefully planned the job in his head, the execution is complicated by his relationship with his pretty accomplice. The remake will have Firth playing a London art curator who plans to con a wealthy collector into buying a phony Monet painting. He enlists a Texas steer roper (Diaz) to pose as a woman whose grandfather liberated the painting at the end of WWII. Hmm, the plots seem close enough. Gambit will mark the first time in 25 years that the Coen brothers have written a script for a film that they won't also direct. What do you think of Diaz and Firth teaming up? Related Posts |
| Kristen Wiig, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph in Bridesmaids Trailer Posted: 01 Feb 2011 12:48 PM PST
Move over Tina Fey, another SNL alum has decided to write and star in a film about women for women, and it’s Kristen Wiig! Wiig has built a serious presence in films over the past few years, and 2011 will be her time to shine as she joins forces with Maya Rudolph and Rose Byrne for a wedding-centric comedy called Bridesmaids. The first official trailer for the film has been released on Apple, and we’ve got it for you below…
Surprisingly, this film doesn’t look as funny as we thought it would. There are a lot of talented people involved, but it comes across as — bland. Are we being too harsh? Bridesmaids is produced by Judd Apatow and co-stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ellie Kemper, and Melissa McCarthy. Synopsis:
Bridesmaids opens in theaters everywhere on May 13. What do you think of the trailer for Bridesmaids? Related Posts |
| Hugh Jackman Says New Wolverine Will Be A Bulldog Posted: 01 Feb 2011 12:07 PM PST
When it was announced that Darren Aronofsky had signed on to direct the upcoming sequel The Wolverine, one of his first orders of business was to put Hugh Jackman on a diet. The actor bulked up for all three X-Men movies, and the previous Wolverine spin-off but that’s not going to be enough. Aronofsky wants him to be bigger, bulkier, chunkier, scarier. The actor recently spoke to the folks over at the LA Times about the intense diet he’s on and the new look that he and the director are going for.
Jackman says:
In the first X-Men, he was a little on the lean side, but in Wolverine and X2, he looked pretty bulky to us. If you’re afraid of what Aronofsky is going for, here’s what else Jackman had to say about the character’s makeover.
It sounds like they’re going for the primal, Hunchback of Notre Dame feel from the comics. Jackman is currently on a 6,000 calorie a day diet, and we don’t even want to know what his work out regimen is like. Do you think that Jackman can pull off this new look? Related Posts |
| David O. Russell Talks Casting Elena in Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Posted: 01 Feb 2011 11:22 AM PST
David O. Russell’s next film project is the undertaking of the video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. The helmer is experiencing a surge in his career due to the popularity of The Fighter and all its Oscar nominations, but fans haven’t been as receptive to his take on Uncharted. People aren’t too keen about Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan Drake, and we can only imagine their response to who Russell has in mind to play Elena.
Russell recently spoke to Empire Magazine, and revealed who he thinks has the chops to play the female lead in the big screen adaptation.
The interviewer then brought up Amy Adams as a possibility to which Russell responded…
Did he just say Scarlett Johannson? Yes, yes he did! Our doubts regarding this film continue to get bigger and bigger. She could be a decent Elena, but we’re still bitter about her being cast as Black Widow in Iron Man 2, so we’re not sure about this. Who do you think should play Elena in the film? Related Posts |
| New DVD Releases: Let Me In, Never Let Me Go, Conviction Posted: 01 Feb 2011 10:46 AM PST This is very serendipitous week on DVD. Because in the wake of Tuesday’s Oscar nominees, this week’s DVD releases give us a chance to analyze the contenders…that missed out on nominations. Yes, this week’s release calendar is filled with those movies that, in March, look like this year’s batch of Awards contenders but never quite fit the bill and end up as the prestige pictures that didn’t get any prestige. So let’s take a look at what went wrong. Plus, as a bonus, two insane sequels that you probably had no idea existed! Check it all out below…
Feature Films
Possible nominees: Best Actress (Hilary Swank), Best Supporting Actor (Sam Rockwell) What went wrong: This was a result of the overall mediocre reviews for the film. The performances themselves were widely acclaimed – Swank notched a SAG nomination, and Rockwell picked up a handful of precursor nominations – but it takes a very special performance to overcome a small film that doesn’t earn overall raves. Let Me In Possible nominees: Best Supporting Actress: (Chloe Moretz), Best Adapted Screenplay What went wrong: There was a time, right before the precursors started, that conventional wisdom had Moretz as this year’s child actor awards bait. People pointed to both her performance in this film and Kick-Ass as an example of an overall year worth honoring. Well, that never quite happened, and I think the genre has a lot to blame. It’s extremely rare for a straight horror film to do anything worthwhile at the Oscars (even if you consider Black Swan to be such a film). Had she got the buzz, the film’s sharp screenplay could have gotten recognition as well. As it stands, this was an under-seen gem this year. Possible nominees: Best Picture, Best Actress (Carey Mulligan), Best Adapted Screenplay What went wrong: This was probably done in by its release date. It had the makings of an Oscar film from top-to-bottom: British, great book adaptation, pedigree up the line – but never quite caught on, and when it fell down early it was impossible for it to make any sort of a comeback. It had a shot when Mulligan picked up a few precursors, but she was too far behind to make a real impact. The Tillman Story Possible Nominees: Best Documentary Feature What went wrong: This one is extremely hard to figure. This film currently boasts an astonishing 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, and tackles an extremely relevant issue of how heroes are misused by the government. Maybe it was the fact that it had a sports tie (always looked down upon) or maybe it’s because the film came out a bit too far after everything happened with the great Pat Tillman. Either way, this is a documentary snub head-scratcher. Welcome to the Riley’s Possible Nominees: Best Supporting Actress (Kristen Stewart) Want Went Wrong: The role was actually played by Kristen Stewart. And Just So You Know, These Sequels Exist…Related Posts |
| Kristen Bell Joins Don Cheadle in Showtime’s ‘House of Lies’ Posted: 01 Feb 2011 10:43 AM PST
Kristen Bell is heading back to television. No, she’s not reprising her role as Veronica Mars on The CW (they don’t deserve her!), she’s heading to cable for a new dark comedy called “House of Lies.” According to the Showtime network, Bell has signed on to co-star alongside Don Cheadle in the new half an hour series, which was created, executive produced and written by Matthew Carnahan (“Dirt”) from the hit tell-all book “House of Lies: How Management Consultants Steal Your Watch and Tell You the Time” by Martin Kihn.
“House of Lies” is described as “a subversive, scathing look at a self-loathing management consultant from a top-tier firm. Cheadle will star as Marty, a highly successful, cutthroat consultant who is never above using any means (or anyone) necessary to get his clients the information they want. Bell will play Jeannie Van Der Hooven, a razor-sharp, Ivy-League graduate who works at Marty’s firm.” This sounds like a winning combination. Bell will join the rest of the cast, which consists of Dawn Oliveri (creepy tattoo lady from the last season of “Heroes“), Ben Schwartz (“Undercovers“), Josh Lawson (“Romantically Challenged”), the legendary Glynn Turman (“In Treatment”) as Marty’s psychoanalyst father; and Donis Leonard Jr. (“The Fresh Beat Band”) as Marty’s young son. We were already interested in the show because of Cheadle and Bell, but now that we know they have Glynn Turman, we’re all in! What do you think of the cast of House of Lies? What do you think of the premise? Source: Coming Soon Related Posts |
