Inception was the most awarded film of the night, taking in six trophy’s but most of them were in technical categories. The Fighter took home three awards, all for acting with Bale, Melissa Leo, and Best Ensemble, while Natalie Portman and Colin Firth won Best Actor and Actress respectively.

We enjoyed The Social Network and thought it was a great film, but if Christopher Nolan or Inception don’t get some recognition come Oscar time it will be a serious injustice. Nolan missed out on Best Original Screenplay, Picture, and Score. Trent Reznor’s work on The Social Network was great, but who could get Inception’s theme out of their heads last year? No one. How did he beat Zimmer? We smell a set up for things to come.

What do you think of this year’s winners? Does The Social Network deserve Best Picture?

Crazy New Photo From The Hangover Part II

The Hangover Part 2 Close Up 14 1 11 kc Crazy New Photo From The Hangover Part II

There’s an evil monkey in someone’s room and it has nothing to do with Chris from “Family Guy.” It belongs to those wild and crazy guys from the Todd Phillips‘ comedy The Hangover Part II. A new insane image has been released in promotion of the film and as usual, we don’t know what the hell’s going on. There’s too much craziness to ignore. Check out the full image…

The Hangover Part 2 Monkey Photo 14 1 11 kc Crazy New Photo From The Hangover Part II

First and foremost, Stu has a Mike Tyson tattoo on his face. According to the official synopsis, Tyson does appear in the sequel, so we wonder if he’s the one who gives Stu the face art? Next, Alan is bald. That sums it up right there. He’s bald and he looks like a white version of the rapper Rick Ross (if you don’t know who that is Google him). Once again, Phil is partially topless (not that we’re complaining), he’s obviously the eye candy of this group. And last but not least, why is there a monkey wearing a jean jacket hanging out in their room? These questions need answers!

In the follow-up to the record-breaking hit comedy "The Hangover," Phil (Bradley Cooper), Stu (Ed Helms), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) travel to exotic Thailand for Stu's wedding. After the unforgettable bachelor party in Las Vegas, Stu is taking no chances and has opted for a safe, subdued pre-wedding brunch. However, things don't always go as planned. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas, but what happens in Bangkok can't even be imagined.

The Hangover Part II opens in theaters on May 26, 2011.

What do you think of the new photo from The Hangover Part II? What do you think is going on in this photo?

Spider Man Denis Leary Suited Up 14 1 1 kc Photos: Denis Leary on Spider Man Set

More behind the scenes set photos have been released from Marc Webb’s Spider-Man reboot. This time we get our first look at Denis Leary’s character Captain George Stacy, who’s the father of Emma Stone’s character Gwen. Over the past month the film has been shooting in Los Angeles and we’ve seen our fair share of paparazzi shots of Stone and Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker. Now it’s time to see what Leary’s been up to…

As you can see they made Leary cut his trademark shaggy hair for something a little more close to the scalp. It will be interesting to see how different his portrayal of this character is from his role on the TV series “Rescue Me.”

The role of George Stacy was previously played by James Cromwell in Spider-Man 3, and those two look absolutely nothing alike. In the Spider-Man comic, Senor Stacy dies in a confrontation between the webslinger and Doctor Octopus, which causes Gwen to hate the superhero. We wonder if he’ll meet a similar fate in this film? Stone was spotted shooting some funeral scenes last month.

Spider-Man will open in theaters nationwide on July 3, 2012.

What do you think of Leary as Captain Stacy?

Noomi Rapace Cast in Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, Will Contain ‘Alien’ Elements

Posted: 14 Jan 2011 03:39 PM PST

noomi rapace 8 10 10 kc Noomi Rapace Cast in Ridley Scotts Prometheus, Will Contain Alien Elements

Over the past year we’ve been wondering when Ridley Scott and 20th Century Fox would finally announce the lead for his Alien prequel Prometheus. Well, the wait is finally over! The director and the studio have confirmed that Swedish actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) has landed the lead in the film, which is loosely based on the Alien mythology.

What started off as a straight prequel evolved into something more according to Scott, who came up with the idea for Prometheus. He and Damon Lindelof eventually transformed his first premise into something “more original.” The story will go into a different direction, but will still contain some Alien elements that will be familiar to fans. No plot details have been revealed as of yet but Scott did have this to say about his latest venture:

"While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien's DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart."

After months of casting rumors, Rapace will star as the lead character Elizabeth Shaw. She’s currently the first and only person signed on for the film. Fox is on the look out to fill the rest of the roles, specifically the other female lead (Vickers), which Angelina Jolie and Charlize Theron are reportedly circling.

We’re relieved that they’re going in this direction. A prequel would have been a heavy burden to carry and we’re not sure if they would have been able to pull it off. There’s nothing wrong with little hints of Alien here and there, but another sequel, prequel, or spin-off would have been overkill. Smart move.

Prometheus is scheduled to hit theaters on March 9th, 2012.

What do you think of the Rapace as the star of the new film? Is she the right choice?

Watch: Interview with Carla Gugino for Every Day

carla gugino1 14 11 Watch: Interview with Carla Gugino for Every Day

If you’re lucky enough to live in LA or NY you’ll be able to catch Carla Gugino in her latest role in writer/director Richard Levine’s film Every Day. She co-stars as the sexy temptress that woes Live Schreiber’s character with her free spirit and sexy writing styles — if only every writer had hot care-taker to see them through a project the writing world would be a much happier place. If you’re not lucky enough to see it on the big screen, have no fear! The film is also being released onto VOD (Video on Demand) at the exact same time! Isn’t it great to see independent film being given new wings?

We had a chance to sit down with the lovely and talented Gugino to talk to her a little bit more about making this film, working with Levine and Schreiber, and of course, why Independent film is soaring right now. Check it out…

The film also stars Liev Schreiber and Helen Hunt with Eddie Izzard and Brian Dennehy.

SYNOPSIS:

From the outside, it looks like Ned (LIEV SCHREIBER) has a perfect life – a lovely wife, Jeannie (HELEN HUNT), two healthy sons, a high-paying job as a television writer and a beautiful home. But cracks are starting to show around the edges. Ned's oldest son, Jonah, (EZRA MILLER) is 15, and wants a lot more independence than Ned is comfortable with. Jeannie's grumpy father, Ernie, (BRIAN DENNEHY) has come to live with them, and Jeannie is quickly becoming overwhelmed by her father's constant demands and negative outlook. Ned's boss, Garrett, (EDDIE IZZARD) isn't liking any of Ned's writing, contributing to Ned's crisis of confidence and general discontent with the circumstances of his life.

So when Garrett suggests that Ned work with his sexy colleague Robin (CARLA GUGINO) to improve his script ideas, Ned jumps at the chance to get out of the house and away from his routine. Beautiful and fun-loving, Robin lives life to the fullest, with champagne and moonlight swims in her private indoor pool. Robin quickly lets Ned know she's interested in more than just working with him, and, Ned intoxicated by her charm and the freedom of her lifestyle, knows he is treading on dangerous territory.

Check Every Day out on demand or in theaters today!

Every Day: Movie Review

Every Day Ezra Miller and Helen Hunt 14 1 11 kc Every Day: Movie Review

Are you in the mood for a film about average folks, with average problems that are amplified on the big screen? If your answer is yes, then you’ll probably be in the mood for Every Day. It’s a dramedy from writer-director Richard Levine that centers on the ups and downs of an every day family. These people could be your neighbors, your friends, they could even be you!

Check out the review…

The Players:

The Good:

  • Relatable Characters/Themes: These characters represent the “everyday” people – the people we know. There’s nothing remotely heightened or embellished about who they are as individuals or the conflicts they face. This movie has you nodding your head not because you agree with what’s on screen but because you genuinely feel for it.
  • Performances: Across the board they’re very honest, subtle performances by everyone – even the kids, which is rare.

The Good/Bad:

  • Every Day:” It’s a perfect title for this film because it very much highlights an “every day” lifestyle among “every day” people. There is a “peak” in the story, but it doesn’t feel like your average climax. The movie feels more like a series of events stocked with your typical ups and downs. I appreciate this kind of story telling because it’s risky- why? Because making a movie without the exciting characters and dramatics reduces its commercial appeal. But, clearly this director was more committed to making something real that audiences could relate to.

The Bad:

  • Not Memorable: I’d like to think that normal characters and a normal story can still make for a memorable film. Unfortunately, Every Day just feels average. There is nothing particularly gripping about the story and more importantly, it doesn’t leave the audience with anything they’ll think about after leaving the theater.

Overall:

Every Day isn’t horrendous but it’s definitely not worth your money. Check out something else this weekend.

Rating: 5/10

Every Day opens in theaters January 14, 2011.

James Gray to Direct The Gray Man

Posted: 14 Jan 2011 01:49 PM PST

james gray 14 11 11 kc James Gray to Direct The Gray Man

New Regency has plans to adapt the Mark Greaney novel The Gray Man, and they’ve found the perfect person to direct. Keeping it in the name family, James Gray has signed on to helm the film according to Deadline. Gray has a very distinct vision of how he wants the thriller to turn out. The Gray Man won’t be another Jason Bourne knock off.

The Gray Man centers on “a former CIA operative-turned ultimate assassin must fight his way across Europe and past special forces teams from around the world in order to save the life of his handler and the handler’s family.” The script is written by Adam Cozad who also penned the upcoming Jack Ryan reboot. He’s all over these political thrillers isn’t he?

Gray plans on shooting the film from the point of view of the protagonist (the assassin) similar to how he did with his previous film We Own the Night. In that movie [Spoiler], Joaquin Phoenix’s character watched from the back of a car as assassins gunned down his police chief father (Robert Duvall). “Almost every shot was from Joaquin’s point of view, inside that car, and I want to make a whole movie with that POV,” Gray said.

This sounds like an interesting visual take on the material. We’re excited to see how he brings it to fruition.

What do you think of Gray directing The Gray Man?

The Green Hornet To Dominate Weekend Box Office

The Green Hornet Cameron Diaz and Seth Rogen 13 1 11 jc The Green Hornet To Dominate Weekend Box Office

Seth Rogen’s long awaited Green Hornet should open to number one this weekend after months of buzz, exciting trailers, and a starved audience of movie goers who are ready to catch a glimpse at the first big budget action blockbuster of the year. Golden Globe nominated films will likely populate the rest of top ten as the Globes hands out its awards this Sunday. In all, the diversity of films this weekend will certainly make for an exciting and powerful box office showing. Here are our predictions…

# 1 The Green Hornet

After months of mounting buzz (not all good) the choice to pick Seth Rogen to write and star in a comic book adaptation of a well known property to Indie Film director Michel Gondry may finally pay off as the film finds itself atop the box office charts this weekend. With the right project, Seth Rogen’s films usually receive a solid opening (Knocked Up, Pineapple Express). With no real competition, the lack of a real action comedy in months, the fan boys, actions fans, and teen’s audience should give The Green Hornet a solid opening weekend.

Our Prediction: $36-$42 Million – Opening Weekend

default video player The Green Hornet To Dominate Weekend Box Office

# 2 The Dilemma

Just three weeks ago movie audiences showed that they were not willing to shell out top dollar to lackluster comedies as evident by the under-performance of Little Fockers, and Gulliver's Travels. The Dilemma Starring Vince Vaughn, Kevin James, and Oscar winning director Ron Howard should experience the same fate, as months of bad press from Vince Vaughn’s public squabble with GLAAD to middling reviews should propel the film to a modest opening at best. The Dilemma’s only saving grace is its stars, Kevin James and Vince Vaughn, who will help anchor this sure to be box office misfire comedy to  a mild opening weekend.

Our Prediction: $16- $19 Million – Opening Weekend

default video player The Green Hornet To Dominate Weekend Box Office

#3 True Grit

True Grit will find itself resting easily at the number 3 spot this weekend as the Golden Globes should help spark interest in The Coen Brothers latest and highest grossing film to date. True Grit has showed strong legs since its initial opening in limited release and has seen small declines since opening wide over Christmas weekend. True Grit should find itself holding strong this weekend, making this the first Coen Brothers film to reach over 100M over the course of their prestigious filmmaking career.

Our Prediction: $11 Million – Weekend Box Office

default video player The Green Hornet To Dominate Weekend Box Office

# 4 Little Fockers

Little Fockers has not been performing well since its opening weekend, as bad word of mouth has led the film to be the worst box office performer of The Meet The Parents Trilogy. This weekend will be no different, as moviegoers will be catching up on Golden Globe nominated films, the opening of the action comedy The Green Hornet, and The Dilemma.

Our Prediction: $7.5 Million -Weekend Box Office

default video player The Green Hornet To Dominate Weekend Box Office

# 5 Black Swan

The Fighter and Black Swan will battle neck to neck to in a tight race for the number 5 spot this weekend. Both films have been nominated for numerous Golden Globes, have received Oscar buzz and been producing similar box office results over the past few weeks. However, look for The Black Swan to win out as Natalie Portman's conveniently timed announcement of her pregnancy, and a probable Golden Globe win this Sunday for best actress will help put The Black Swan atop The Fighter and land at the number 5 spot this weekend.

Our Prediction: $7 Million -Weekend Box Office

#6. The Fighter

Our Prediction: $6.5 Million- Weekend Box Office

Ben Stiller Says Zoolander 2 Script Turned In

zoolander 2 11 10 10 kc Ben Stiller Says Zoolander 2 Script Turned In

If you’ve been living in a dreamworld hoping, waiting, and praying for a sequel to Zoolander, you’re in luck. Star and director Ben Stiller has delivered some good news via Empire regarding the status of Zoolander 2. The script has been completed and submitted to the studio, and he offered up some details regarding what we can expect from Derek and Hansel this second time around.

It's ten years later and most of it is set in Europe. I don't want to give away too much, but it's basically Derek and Hansel ten years later – though the last movie ended on a happy note a lot of things have happened in the meantime. Their lives have changed and they're not really relevant anymore. It's a new world for them. Will Ferrell is written into the script and he's expressed interest in doing it. I think Mugatu is an integral part of the Zoolander story, so yes, he features in a big way."

Yes! Mugatu will be back. We doubt that Ferrell would turn down such an amazing part. No one can play that character but him. Since they’re waiting for the studio’s approval, we have to sit back and see what happens. We’re not sure how long it will take but in the words of Hansel we hope this doesn’t last any longer than “eight days.”

What do you think of the premise for Zoolander 2? Are you interested in seeing the sequel?

Lauren Ambrose 14 1 11 kc Six Feet Unders Lauren Ambrose Joins Torchwood

The upcoming season of “Torchwood” will be filled with American actors. Not only is the network moving from the BBC to Starz, but for the first time ever they’re shooting footage on U.S. soil. The last time we checked two Stateside actors had been cast in the form of Bill Pullman and Mekhi Pfifer, now there’s word that another one has joined the party. Say hello to Lauren Ambrose everybody!

According to EW, Ambrose, who appeared on the Showtime series “Six Feet Under,” has joined the growing cast of “Torchwood.” The site claims that she’ll play "a sweet-talking PR genius with a heart of stone who's just cornered the most important client of her career … and maybe of all time." Her character’s name is Jilly Kitzinger and she’ll appear in 10 episodes this season.

We wonder if this new infusion of stars will affect the quirky dynamic that “Torchwood” is known for. We hope not, because even though we like Pullman, Pfifer, and Ambrose we love Captain Jack and he needs to remain front and center.

Production on “Torchwood: Miracle Day” began on Monday and the show is expected to debut in July on Starz.

What do you think of Ambrose joining the cast? Are you excited or turned off my all the new additions?

john dye touched by an angel 14 1 11 kc John Dye, Touched By An Angel Star Dies at 47

If you grew up during the nineties the name John Dye might strike a chord with you. The actor, who was a regular on the TV series “Touched By An Angel,” has died. According to the Los Angeles Times, Dye was only 47 years old when his dead body was found on Monday in his San Fransisco home.

A cause of death wasn’t immediately known, but Dye’s family is now claiming that he passed from heart failure. When the actor appeared on “Touched By An Angel” he played an angel of death, who helped people get through rough patches in their lives so they could eventually move on. He stated in the past that he loved the character because death is something that people don’t feel comfortable talking about but it’s a fact of life.

“I like the role because death isn’t something we talk about much in America,” Dye wrote in a 1997 compilation of “Touched by an Angel” scripts. “As a nation, we find it difficult to mourn or grieve, labeling tears a sign of weakness. Because of that, Andrew is a rather loud character, helping us face something we would rather ignore.”

It’s so sad to see someone die at such an early age. We’re not sure if the actor had serious health problems in the past but we’ll let you know if we find out anything more.

Valerie Bertinelli, who also appeared on “Angel” with Dye posted this on her Twitter: “Dear, sweet John Dye, rest in peace.”

We think everyone agrees with her sentiment. R.I.P. John Dye.

Marvel has been on a roll this week promoting their upcoming releases. The biggest of them being the first look at Andrew Garfield in their new Spider-Man movie. That film won’t hit theaters until 2012, but Thor and Captain America will open this summer. In the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly, they’ve premiered a new photo from Thor that features a very angry Chris Hemsworth. Check out the full sized image below…

Thor Angry Photo Full 14 1 11 kc New Thor Photo Thors Angry!

We’re still not sold on this movie. It has a great cast, and a great director but we’re having a hard time supporting it. Perhaps we’ll be pleasantly surprised by what it brings to the table? Thor has always been the odd man out on The Avengers team for various reasons, and we’re not sure if that will negatively or positively affect his solo effort.

Thor centers on a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Thor is scheduled to hit theaters next year on May 6, 2011 and will be in 3D. The film stars Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgard, Idris Elba, Jaimie Alexander, and Clark Gregg.
