Showtime Won’t Air The Kennedys, Miniseries Still in Limbo

Posted: 12 Jan 2011 05:30 PM PST

the kennedys 10 1 11 kc Showtime Wont Air The Kennedys, Miniseries Still in Limbo

The Kennedys is a prime example of a lot of hard work gone to waste. The big budget miniseries was supposed to air on The History Channel, to mark its first entry into scripted television but after watching the finished product the network decided against it. Apparently, the film doesn’t meet their standards of historical accuracy. There were rumors that the made for TV movie was being packaged and pitched to other networks such as Showtime, who has a history of picking up renegade features but according to EW, they don’t want it either.

There are reports that many networks want to air The Kennedys but a deal has yet to be made. Who are these people, and when will they step forward?  Showtime has officially declined to pick up the project, HBO is out because they’ve already got a developing Kennedy flick in the works, and so far Starz hasn’t been approached. This has turned into one big network game of hot potato.

The producers of the film are currently trying to shop it to other outlets to see what they can come up with. The Kennedys is still scheduled to air in Canada on March 6, and will still be broadcast internationally. The film stars Greg Kinnear as John F. Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Robert F. Kennedy, and Tom Wilkinson as the family patriarch Joseph P. Kennedy, and Katie Holmes as Jackie Kennedy.

Who do you think should save The Kennedys from a life on the shelf?

One of the big winner’s at last year’s Sundance Film Festival was a movie written, directed, and starring Josh Radnor. Yes, as in Ted from the CBS comedy “How I Met Your Mother.” Don’t be surprised by his talented turn. If Jason Segel can play with Muppets, and Neil Patrick Harris can hang with Smurfs, there’s no reason why Radnor can’t get creative in his spare time. The first trailer for his film Happythankyoumoreplease has been released on Apple, and it’s sweet, endearing, funny, real, and ready for you to watch below…

default video player Happythankyoumoreplease Movie Trailer

The movie has a cute, indie flair to it, which makes it look enjoyable. The story seems to be heavily based on various relationships whether platonic, sexual, or paternal. It’s like a light character study wrapped in humor and sometimes poignant dialogue. We’re not sure how everything plays out but we’re already a fan of the friendship that develops between Radnor’s character and the young boy.

Official Synopsis:

On his way to a meeting with a publisher, aspiring novelist Sam Wexler (Radnor) finds Rasheen, a young boy separated from his family on the subway. When the quiet Rasheen refuses to be left alone with social services, Sam learns the boy has already been placed in six previous foster homes and impulsively agrees to let the boy stay with him for a couple days. Dropped into Sam’s chaotic, bachelor lifestyle, Rasheen is introduced to Sam’s circle of friends.

Annie (Malin Akerman) who has an unhealthy pattern of dating the wrong men, as well as an auto-immune disorder which has rendered her hairless, Mary-Catherine (Zoe Kazan) and Charlie (Pablo Schreiber) whose potential move to Los Angeles threatens their relationship, and Mississippi (Kate Mara), an aspiring singer/waitress who tests Sam’s fear of commitment. When Sam’s unexpected friendship with Rasheen develops, he realizes adulthood is not about waiting for the right answers to get the life you want, but simply stumbling ahead and figuring them out in the process.

Happythankyoumoreplease will open in theaters on March 4, 2011.

Kiefer Sutherland to Star in The Confession, A Web Series

the confession 12 1 11 kc Kiefer Sutherland to Star in The Confession, A Web Series

Are you going through “24” withdrawal? Do you need to see Kiefer Sutherland involved in some serious action and drama on the small screen? If you answered yes, you’re in luck because he’s headed to…the internet. Sutherland won’t reprise his role as Jack Bauer but he’ll take on a new persona for a web series called “The Confession.” Dun! Dun! Dun!

According to EW, Sutherland and “The Confession” are coming to Hulu in March. The show will consist of “10 five-to-seven-minute webisodes” that follow Sutherland’s hitman character as he has theological discussions with a priest played by John Hurt regarding why his victims deserved to die. The series was written and directed by Brad Mirman and we hear it ends with a serious twist!

You might be wondering why Sutherland would jump on the internet bandwagon instead of film or television. When asked about his reasoning he said, "It came about in such a different way." The entire idea of a miniature drama seemed implausible and had the actor stumped, which is what got him interested.

"Chris [Young] started talking about wanting to do a drama, but his criteria was so different. A drama in five-minute episodes! It was one of those things, like a puzzle over the course of the lunch. It can't be that complicated to figure out a story in five minutes, right? I couldn't, and it frustrated the crap out of me. So I went home that night, still thinking about it, and it stayed with me for three days. I was falling asleep when I literally got this idea of a confessional."

“The Confession” was shot over the course of nine days in New York. Look out for the premiere in a couple months. Stay tuned.

What do you think of the premise of The Confession? What do you think is the twist?

Red Riding Hood Close Up 12 1 11 kc Amanda Seyfried in New Red Riding Hood Poster

A new poster has been released for the Catherine Hardwicke directed feature Red Riding Hood. The film is based on the popular children's story of the same name that centers on a young girl, who attempts to avoid a dangerous wolf while traveling to her grandmother’s house. Unfortunately, this version strays heavily from the source material and adds some extra sex appeal and gore. If this still sounds like something you’re interested in, check out the poster below…

Red Riding Hood Poster 12 1 11 kc Amanda Seyfried in New Red Riding Hood Poster

The script for Red Riding Hood was written by David Leslie Johnson, who previously penned the screenplay for the horror flick Orphan. This version of Little Red Riding Hood is supposed to be a darker and more adult take on the story. Besides Seyfried, the cast includes Gary Oldman, Lukas Haas, Virginia Madsen, Billy Burke, Shiloh Fernandez, and Julie Christie as the grandmother (we’re still mad she signed on for this).

Detailed Plot Synopsis:

Seyfried plays Valerie, a beautiful young woman torn between two men. She is in love with a brooding outsider, Peter (Fernandez), but her parents have arranged for her to marry the wealthy Henry (Irons). Unwilling to lose each other, Valerie and Peter are planning to run away together when they learn that Valerie’s older sister has been killed by the werewolf that prowls the dark forest surrounding their village. For years, the people have maintained an uneasy truce with the beast, offering the creature a monthly animal sacrifice. But under a blood red moon, the wolf has upped the stakes by taking a human life.

Hungry for revenge, the people call on famed werewolf hunter, Father Solomon (Oldman), to help them kill the wolf. But Solomon’s arrival brings unintended consequences as he warns that the wolf, who takes human form by day, could be any one of them. As the death toll rises with each moon, Valerie begins to suspect that the werewolf could be someone she loves. As panic grips the town, Valerie discovers that she has a unique connection to the beast–one that inexorably draws them together, making her both suspect…and bait.

Red Riding Hood opens in theaters on March 11, 2011.

1-1 Interview: Michel Gondry on Green Hornet and Changing a Genre

michel gondry1 12 11 b 1 1 Interview: Michel Gondry on Green Hornet and Changing a Genre

This week in theaters Academy Award winning director Michel Gondry takes on a new kind of Super-Hero movie with Seth Rogen in The Green Hornet. Though the film has been taking heat from bloggers and fans since the project began, that never stopped Gondry from taking an unconventional super-hero story, with an unpredictable super-hero who is more known for his side-kick than himself, casting risky actors and seeing the project through to the end. If there’s one thing that Gondry is, it’s an inspiration to all of us to get off our asses, stop criticizing others and start doing things ourselves. And as he said in the press conference earlier that day, sometimes tequila helps with that!

Find out more from the Frenchman himself in our one on one interview below…

How are you? Not too exhausted promoting the film?

Michel Gondry: Oh yes, but I’ve been exhausted all my life, so I can’t see the difference.

What was the one thing that made you have to be a part of this project?

MG: It’s hard to say, because it came twice to me. One time in 1997 and then again two-three years ago. it’s a combination of the first time it not working out and I felt bad and my son. I told him too much about this movie. So the second time around, I just had to do it to show my son that I had made it. So I would say my son is my reason why I had to do this movie.

What about this genre interested you?

MG: First we have to define the genre, because this genre is “super-hero” which is not really something that appeals to me, but “super-hero” is also like an action-comedy, which appeal to me a lot. It’s a way of seeing, with characters, watching ordinary people doing extraordinary things and that’s what interested me.

michel gondry1 12 11 1 1 Interview: Michel Gondry on Green Hornet and Changing a Genre

Gondry definitely took a look of risks on this film, from the tone to the casting choices, that being said it’s not what one would expect from Gondry. Talking to him I realized how he really tries to do simple things in different ways and loves a challenge. He also likes to break things down into wonderful analogies.

A lot of people were having issues with this film because of a lot of bold choices made, what do you have to say about those decisions and then the early, bad buzz? Do you like to shock people with your decisions to step outside the box of what we expect from you?

MG: Well, step outside the box yes, shock people, it’s not really nice. A lot of people make a lot of silly things just to shock people, it’s sort of a cheap way to attract attention and I would rather attract attention with something more special. So, I don’t think of shocking people when I made the decision to take this project. I think of it’s more thinking outside of the box, because to find the truth, to find anything different you have to put yourself out there and it’s how you deal with this.

I realized recently that I keep looking for my keys in the morning, and the only way to find them is when I decide not to look for them but to look for something else. And I just understood why this works and now it works all the time, because when you look for you keys you’re going to look in the same places again and again and you’re not going to find them because they’re not in those places. When you start to say, I’m going to look for my wallet and the first thing you find is your keys. And then if you need your wallet you look for your glasses or telephone. That’s the definition of thinking outside of the box because if you don’t think outside you’re going to do the same thing again and again. To make something different you have to go in a new direction and see what you find in the new place.

michel gondry1 12 10 c 1 1 Interview: Michel Gondry on Green Hornet and Changing a Genre

How did you visually make this your film? I noticed a lot of reflection on every surface possible?

MG: I wanted to show the fight sequences in a creative away, but not in a way that would take you out of the story and be so stylized that you wouldn’t feel like there was a real fight going on. I was trying to make people what they felt. They used to use slow-mo and it was so different [it was like] nothing that was used before. Now when you see a slow-motion shot you think about it from a previous time and so now it sends you back, which doesn’t make you feel anything special. So I was trying to find a new way that makes you feel like “oh! what’s going on?!” That makes you doubt what you’re looking at. How can I show these guys, taking out 10 guys, and have it look like those 10 guys are waiting for their turn, I wanted them to be moving. So now when they punch one guy, the other is still floating, and beating up the next guy, so it was that that dictated my decision.

Whenever we interview Seth he’s always very playful? Does he ever get serious?

MG: We only had an hour during the fight set and it lasted 15 minutes. And I didn’t want to listen to him and I sent him a text message saying “I love you” and he was back right away. Another time it was me who left and called me and he said “you have to come back” and then I came back, but that was about it. It’s about how we solved it. Each time we had a difference we spoke or we got drunk once — if I wanted to complain he’d convince me everything was fine.

There were so many funny meetings with him and the producer and executives. There were so many funny meetings where they wanted to punch each other, but you could tell they were friends, it’s like best friends on the school yard. It was more like when you fight your brother.

At the heart of it, Gondry is an experimental film-maker who has now experimented with the mainstream. Though I wish I could have seen more “Gondry” and many people will say the same, I have to respect him for not just giving us what we wanted and for trying something new. I think his motto for making this film is a great one for film-makers of all levels.

You seem to love film-making in all it’s forms, what’s a tip that you have for aspiring film makers out there?

Two pieces of advice.

1. Finish Your Project
2. Start your Project

And in this order, it’s important that you use it in this order because the problem is that I hear young directors that are more scared about the result and how they will be judged by the result, that they go through life and don’t do anything.

People come to me and say “I’ve been asked to do this movie or that video, but I think it might be bad for my image, maybe I shouldn’t do it?” I always tell them, “what is your goal right now? Is it to do a bad movie, or to do no movie at all?” And they realize that the potential is much greater than any other possibilities. Grab the chance when you have, don’t think about how people will judge you. Which is scary with the internet because there are many more people to judge you and have their voices heard than those who are willing to go and make things. So it’s important to do something, not to get frozen by the possibility that people might not like it.

As long as you’re trying, making and doing something you believe in — you’re a part of the film-making culture. No one is ever going to love everything, but it is nice to know that you haven’t just followed others and that you’ve taken the chance.

Check out Gondry’s latest film The Green Hornet in theaters January 14th!

emma watson blake lively 12 1 11 kc Blake Lively or Emma Watson May Star With Taylor Lautner in Incarceron

After three films, Taylor Lautner has come out of The Twilight Saga as the fledgling heartthrob with an eight pack. Now that the series is coming to an end with the release of Breaking Dawn, he’s making sure that his post-vampire career is ready to go. According to Deadline, he’s currently casting for the female lead and love interest in his developing film Incarceron, which is based on the Catherine Fisher novel.

Sources close to the production state that Blake Lively, Emma Watson, and Jennifer Lawrence are the three frontrunners for the part. This comes as a shock because it doesn’t appear as if there would be any chemistry between Lautner and Lively or Watson. It seems like such an odd pairing. Lawrence has potential, but the other two could be long shots.

In the film, "Lautner will play Finn, who has lived his entire life on Incarceron, a savage, futuristic prison society. He meets the daughter of the warden, who is trapped in her own prison, a futuristic world constructed beautifully to look like the 17th Century. She knows nothing of Incarceron except that it exists. She and Finn simultaneously find a crystal key that allows them to communicate and hatch an escape plan for Finn."

Not only will Lautner star in Incarceron but he’ll also co-produce. The script is being written by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage.

Who do you think should play Lautner’s love interest in Incarceron?

The Game 12 1 11 kc The Game Season 4 Premiere Earns Record 7.7 Million Viewers

After a two year hiatus the comedy “The Game” has finally returned to television. The series, which began as a spin-off to “Girlfriends” was previously canceled and put out to pasture by The CW despite its hardcore fanbase. One network’s trash is another network’s treasure, and in this case BET have reaped the benefits. They picked up the series for its fourth season, which debuted on Tuesday night to some impressive, record breaking numbers!

According to EW, “The Game” pulled in 7.7 million viewers for its season four debut. That’s huge for cable and it trumps most shows that appear on its former CW home. When it last aired on network television it was only pulling in about 1.8 million viewers, so it makes you wonder what changed? The show was previously scheduled on death-night aka Friday, and the CW wasn’t marketing it. The general public had no idea it was on, therefore the ratings were low, and it got canceled.

If you’re not familiar with “The Game,” here’s a little run down. It’s produced by Kelsey Grammer and centers on three football players and their families and stars Tia Mowry, Coby Bell, Britney Daniels (Skyline), and Wendy Raquel Robinson. It’s a great show that’s written well and genuinely funny. We’re happy to hear that so many people tuned in to see it. This was a long time coming.

Academy Award winning director Michel Gondry wants to take on absolutely everything! His latest film, The Green Hornet hits theaters this Friday and as an added bonus he’ll be taking over "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" this Thursday to promote his film and show us something we’ve never seen before. He’s not the first director to have done it, Quentin Tarantino and J.J. Abrams have both directed episodes in the past to promote their films, but he may be the craziest one so far!

The episode will feature none other than an interview with The Green Hornet himself, Seth Rogen. The last time Rogen was on the show, the studio lost power and Kimmel grabbed his laptop shooting the entire show from his computer's webcam. Hopefully this time there will actually be something for Gondry to direct!

Though Gondry is most well known for his award winning film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind he’s also directed multiple music videos for artists such as Bjork, Paul McCartney and The White Stripes. this week, Gondry will be returning to his musical side and directing a live performance The Damned Things

The movie stars AnnaSophia Rob as the title character, and also features Carrie Underwood in her feature film debut.

Is it just us or are they purposely hiding the shots of Hamilton’s missing arm? We’re actually interested in how they’re going to portray that on film. What type of effects can they use to remove it? We’ve seen paparazzi shots of the actress wearing a green sleeve, which we’re assuming was for the CGI.

The overall quality of the trailer makes it look like a made for TV movie, and the fact that Kevin Sorbo is in it doesn’t add to its credibility. We mean that in the nicest possible way. (He was awesome as Hercules!).

The film also stars Dennis Quaid, Helen Hunt, and Jeremy Sumpter. It’s scheduled to hit theaters on April 8.

What do you think of the first trailer for Soul Surfer? Are you interested in seeing the film?

The Big Bang Theory is Renewed for 3 More Seasons!

the big bang theory 17 5 10 kc The Big Bang Theory is Renewed for 3 More Seasons!

Geeks will continue to dominate CBS’ comedy line up with the renewal of the hit series “The Big Bang Theory.” The network has just announced that they’ve picked up the show for not one, not two, but three more years! This will extend the show’s run throughout the 2013-14 television season. Are you ready for more nerds on your screen?

“It doesn't take a theoretical physicist to see why this show is a BIG part of our comedy future," said CBS Entertainment president Nina Tassler. "From ratings to critical acclaim to pop culture buzz, it's struck a chord on all levels. The creative genius of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady and the on-camera talents of an amazing young ensemble have created a comedy that will entertain viewers for a long time. We're proud to partner with Warner Bros. on another highly successful, long-running comedy."

“The Big Bang Theory” has been on the air since September 2007. The show finished the 2009-2010 season as the number one “scripted series in adults 18-49 and the number two comedy among viewers.” Despite it’s move to Thursdays this season, it’s still managed to earn an average of “13.8 million viewers (up 7 percent versus the year-ago time period) and a 4.7 rating/14 share in adults 18-49.”

Not only does it boast great numbers but it also has an Emmy to its credit. Star Jim Parsons recently won the Best Actor in a Comedy Series award for his work last season.

Good move CBS, now if only you would pull the plug on “Two and a Half Men.”

What do you think of CBS’ decision to renew The Big Bang Theory for three more seasons? Will you watch?

X-Men First Class Trailer Description

x men first class 12 1 11 kc X Men First Class Trailer Description

A lot of superhero films will be hitting theaters this year including three from Marvel. One of which will be the prequel X-Men First Class that’s directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. If you’re like us, you’ve probably been wondering what the hell has been taking Fox so long to release photos or an official trailer. Over at The Daily Blam, they’ve supposedly seen the first trailer for the film, and they’ve given an in depth description of it below. Check it out…

First Class trailer description:

  • The trailer opens with the 20th Century Fox logo which pans up as the two spotlight beams cross and form a white “X” on the left of the screen. A white circle goes around the “X” forming the X-Men logo, as Magneto’s helmet comes up on the right.
  • Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellen voice over the opening lines about destiny and which side will you stand for as scenes of each in their previous X-Men movie roles flash until the entire screen flashes from white to black.
  • A very young Xavier and Erik meet for the first time, followed by a different angle of the scene from the opening of X-Men in the concentration camp.
  • Camera pans outside of an old castle-style building that greatly resembles the X-mansion. McAvoy and Fassbender are seen walking through the halls. The words “One wanted peace” flash by Xavier.
  • Scene transitions to Erik yelling dramatically as metal tables in the room begin to float around him. Xavier and Mags shake hands with a tall man in a lab coat introduced as Dr. McCoy.
  • The words “The other was too far gone” flash as a very pissed off Erik storms through a hallway killing guards as he passes them.
  • Cut scene to what appears to be a red Nightcrawler with swords taking out a room full of people; the close up reveals Azazel’s face.
  • The Hellfire Club stand next to Xavier on a bed as Emma goes into diamond form. Olver Platt and Kevin Bacon were next to Emma in black aristocratic clothes, with Emma wearing the exact same outfit from the Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon.
  • Mystique on a bed with her skin turning black; Beast is shown transforming, with his feet growing and toes webbing and fur growing.
  • Havok shoots a red beam of energy — looks almost exactly like cyclops’s eye beam, but larger — from his chest (SIDE NOTE: Havok’s powers in comics have always had a blue energy, this change may be to relate his character to Cyclops).
  • It then shows Beast all blue and furry (looking almost exactly like Kelsey Grammer in make-up) in the pilot seat of a crashing jet, followed by several rockets flying towards an island.
  • Xavier’s face goes all CGI and his head begins to go bald as he mentally pulls a large ship that was sinking out of the water, as well as some smaller boats around it (seems to allude to Xavier have telekinesis).
  • Back to Xavier (with hair) telling Erik he only wanted peace for him, and he replies there was never a chance for anyone to have that.
  • Final scene: Erik picks up a black helmet, then he is shown from behind wearing a black and red suit (no cape or coat though) and the helmet. Screen cuts to black and the X-Men: First Class logo shows up (the one described above), then the release date.

We like the fact that they rope in Stewart and McKellen from the previous X-Men trilogy. We’re still not fans of how many mutants are in the film, considering their placement in the actual comics (we’re looking at you Azazel). And any excitement that we have stems from the possibility of seeing McAvoy and Fassbender go at it. They’re two very talented men and we’re interested in how they’ll portray the complex relationship of Erik and Charles.

The first trailer for X-Men First Class has been rumored to debut in front of The Green Hornet, which opens in theaters on Friday, January 14.

X-Men First Class is scheduled to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.

What do you think of the trailer description? Do you think the movie will be a flop?
