Finally, a new trailer for the “Spartacus: Blood and Sand” prequel has been released. It’s called “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena,” and it has even more carnal violence and over the top sex scenes than the original. Starz has released a new trailer to promote the January 21 premiere, which will feature the deliciously devious Lucy Lawless. Check it out…
For those of you wondering about the upcoming season of “Blood and Sand,” the network has confirmed that season two is ago. Despite the casting issues they’ve encountered regarding a replacement for Andy Whitfield (he had to bow out for cancer treatments), they’re still on the look out for a new male lead. | Ivan Reitman Has Sent Ghostbusters 3 Script to Bill Murray Posted: 07 Jan 2011 04:28 PM PST
There’s been a lot of speculation regarding the long gestating Ghostbusters 3 sequel. All the key actors from the previous films seem to be on board including Harold Ramis, Sigourney Weaver, and Dan Aykroyd but Bill Murray hasn’t been nailed down. There have been rumors that Murray has seen the script and wasn’t happy about it. Over at Coming Soon, they were able to talk to director Ivan Reitman who decided to clear the air about all the false reports that have surfaced online.
Regarding Murray’s dislike of the script:
On the rumored plot of Murray’s character being a ghost and Weaver’s son leading the next generation of Ghostbusters:
Overall, Reitman didn’t give any sold details regarding the story but he did say that all of the things we’ve heard on the net have been wrong (Gasp! The internet didn’t get it right?). He stated, “There is almost nothing that is accurate online about that film.” Perhaps we should just wait until an official synopsis is released? Do you feel relieved or worried about where the film’s story is going? Related Posts |
| Video Interview: Shana Feste Talks Country Strong and REAL Filmmaking Posted: 07 Jan 2011 04:18 PM PST
Shana Feste is the new hip, young, and if I may add, rather attractive writer/director proving that when it comes to making serious cinematic dramas, sometimes a woman know best. She is the brains behind two of the most well-respected and risky dramas of the past two years. Last year she broke onto the big screen with her courageous and well-respected film The Greatest starring Carey Mulligan, Aaron Johnson, Pierce Brosnan and Susan Sarandon and now her latest film Country Strong has hit theaters with Gwyneth Paltrow’s big return to a starring role alongside Tim McGraw, Garrett Hedlund and Leighton Meester.
There is something about Feste that oozes old Hollywood with a modern twist. From the way she talks about her films to what you see on the big screen she reminds you that real filmmaking still matters. It’s not all about green-screens and explosions, it’s about setting up real situations, with honest and flawed characters and allowing the drama to unfold without manipulating it. She reminds us that writing and character are not something that we can look back on but is something to currently be excited to see in modern cinema. One of the hosts for the upcoming TV Show, “The Indie Angle”, Sasha Perl-Raver had a chance to sit down with Shana and ask her about her style of filmmaking, how Feste had to come to terms with being so talented and she even gave us some great advice for aspiring filmmakers out there! Check out the interview now… For more from Shana Feste and more on indie filmmaking from the people doing it right now, check back in on ScreenCrave for more information on “The Indie Angle”, coming soon! | Torchwood Gets New Title and New Plot Posted: 07 Jan 2011 03:48 PM PST
A lot of you are awaiting the return of the popular British sci-fi show “Torchwood.” The “Doctor Who” spin-off has moved from its BBC roots over to the Starz cable network where it will experience a few changes. The series will film a good portion of the show on U.S. soil (that’s a first), and the title of the series has been slightly altered. Not only will “Torchwood” be different in name but the new season will have an exciting twist. Find out what it is below…
While speaking at the TCA press event, “Torchwood” creator Russell T. Davies revealed that the international version of the show will have a new title: “Torchwood: Miracle Day.” Doesn’t that sound intriguing? What is this miracle you ask? Here’s how Davies describes the plot of the new season…
What is this? It’s like Children of Men but instead of being unable to conceive they’re unable to die. That’s sad. Who wants to constantly stay in pain like that knowing there’s no end? Hopefully Captain Jack and his crew can help! “Torchwood: Miracle Day” is expected to air on Starz this summer. What do you think of the premise of this season? Source: EW Related Posts |
| Mark Wahlberg Still On For Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Posted: 07 Jan 2011 02:48 PM PST
It’s no secret that a lot of people have issues with David O. Russell’s developing adaptation of Uncharted: Drake Fortune. From what we’ve heard it heavily deviates from the storyline of the video game and adds multiple characters who either don’t exist or don’t have major parts in the original story. There’s also the issue of Mark Wahlberg being cast as Nathan Drake. He’s not a horrible actor but fans are having a hard time viewing him as the character. There have been a lot of flip-flop reports confirming and denying the actor’s casting in the film with the latest coming from Moviehole. The man himself has once again stated that he’s still on for Uncharted and so are Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci!
When asked about his status with the film Wahlberg said, “David O'Russell is writing right now and hopes to direct. It's myself, Joe Pesci and Robert De Niro.” In regards to the production start he stated that they’ll hopefully shoot “in the summer time." When O. Russell’s original plan for the film was released, De Niro and Pesci were said to be on board to play Drake’s father and uncle respectively. This would definitely add a new family dynamic that’s not really part of the game. With so many changes it kind of makes you wonder what will remain the same. What do you think of Wahlberg starring as Drake? Related Posts |
| Exorcism of Emily Rose Director Scott Derrickson to Direct Goliath Posted: 07 Jan 2011 02:15 PM PST
Relativity Media is about to get Biblical with their adaptation of the famous story of David and Goliath. According to Heat Vision, they’ve hired a director to helm the epic in the form of Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson. Get ready to watch the young man with a sling shot take down an ungodly beast with the help of some modern day special effects.
The script for Goliath was written by John D. Payne and Patrick McKay, but the studio plans to take it and add their own twist. They want to modernize it and give a 300 and The Bourne Identity feel to it. We never knew that either of those films had anything in common. It should be interesting to see what can come out of that combo!
Will this all be done with a shaky, hand held camera? And will it feature David in a barely there loincloth? What do you think of Derrickson directing Goliath? What do you think of the story’s twist? Related Posts |

| Judd Apatow Reunites Rudd and Mann for Knocked Up Spin-Off Posted: 07 Jan 2011 12:14 PM PST
Judd Apatow is gearing up for his next directorial project following 2009’s Funny People. According to reports, he plans to reunite his Knocked Up co-stars Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann for a spin-off that features their characters Pete and Debbie. Previously, it was thought to be either a prequel or a sequel but it’s neither.
In Knocked Up, Mann played the older sister of Katherine Heigl’s pregnant character. She had two children (played by her real life daughters with Apatow) and was married to Rudd’s character Pete. Throughout the majority of the movie their relationship is strained and they deal with issues of trust, communication, and responsibility in a way that only Apatow could write it. Apatow will once again pen this script, which will feature an original story surrounding the characters. The film is expected to hit theaters on June 1, 2012. To be completely honest, we’re not sure how we feel about Apatow doing spin-offs. With the exception of Funny People, we loved his previous scripts for The 40 Year Old Virgin and Knocked Up as solo and original efforts. He typically uses the same actors in his films, so why not use them again but create new characters? Would you be interested in seeing a feature based on Pete and Debbie? | Armie Hammer on Playing an Elderly Character in Hoover Posted: 07 Jan 2011 11:29 AM PST
A month ago we learned that one of the breakout stars from The Social Network had joined the cast of Clint Eastwood’s upcoming biopic J. Edgar (formerly Hoover). The actor is Armie Hammer and he’s set to play the right hand man to Leonardo DiCaprio. Hammer recently opened up and gave some details regarding his role, and revealed that for some of the movie he’ll be highly unrecognizable.
In the film, Hammer plays lawyer-turned-FBI-official Clyde Tolson, whom was also rumored to be Hoover's lover. Tolson was the associate director of the FBI from 1947 to 1972. He was in daily close contact with Hoover at the office and the pair often dined, socialized in night clubs, and even vacationed together. According to Vulture, Tolson is played as a love struck and sensitive man who pines after Hoover, and “after an altercation between the two men gives way to an onscreen kiss — ultimately becomes the FBI director’s closest companion.” Hammer says that he’ll play the character throughout several decades, which will cause for a little make up help.
The actor also confirmed that Judi Dench will star in the film, and she’ll be playing Hoover’s mother. Nice! Do you think Hammer can pull off an older character? Related Posts |
| Eminem to Star in Random Acts of Violence Posted: 07 Jan 2011 10:41 AM PST
Over the past two years, Eminem has experienced an amazing resurgence with his music career. He’s once again the biggest selling artist around and he’s been nominated for multiple Grammys for his latest album. But despite his success in the medium he’s ready to return to acting. He made his breakthrough feature film debut in 2002 with 8 Mile. The drama was loosely based on his life and was a box office and critical success. It’s been nine years since he’s headlined a film, and it looks like he’s ready to get back into the game — the Hollywood game.
According to Vulture, Eminem is gearing up to star in the thriller Random Acts of Violence. Doesn’t that title sound fitting to you? The movie will be produced by 20th Century Fox and it will be directed by David Von Ancken. Originally, Violence started off as a poor man’s film version of the video game Grand Theft Auto, but Rockstar Games weren’t interested in damaging their franchise so they refused to sell the studio the rights. Therefore, Fox went and found a script similar to what GTA has to offer, and decided to make a movie off that but unfortunately the story came across as corny so they decided to scrap the idea. Random Acts of Violence will now be a crime drama along the lines of The Town and The Departed. The premise of the revamped screenplay goes a little something like this:
If Eminem does take on this role and the part in Kurt Sutter’s boxing flick Southpaw, he might have a full fledgling acting career on his hands. We’re not talking about dipping, and dabbling here and there, he has what it takes to be a legitimate star. What do you think of Eminem possibly starring in Random Acts of Violence? Related Posts |
| Edgar Ramirez, Toby Kebbell Join Wrath of The Titans, Bill Nighy, Hayley Atwell in Talks Posted: 07 Jan 2011 10:01 AM PST
Besides the usual suspects of Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Gemma Arterton, and Ralph Fiennes returning for the Clash of the Titans sequel Wrath of the Titans, a few more actors have been cast. According to The Wrap, Edgar Ramirez and Toby Kebbell have both been cast in the film, while Hayley Atwell and Bill Nighy are being considered for two very important roles.
Ramirez, who was recently nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in Carlos, is said to play Ares, the god of war. Kebbell, who we last saw as a Criss Angel type of magician in The Sorcerers Apprentice, is in talks to star as Agenor. Atwell, is a young actress who’ll probably earn a lot of attention after she appears in this summer’s Captain America. She’s said to be on the shortlist to star as Andromeda, which was played by Alexa Davalos in the previous film. We wonder what happened to her? On another note, veteran British actor Bill Nighy is being courted to play the Greek god Hephaestus, but nothing is official at this point. Wrath of the Titans is set to open in theaters on March 30, 2012 and it will be in 3D. What do you think of the new talent being infused for Wrath of the Titans? Related Posts |
